The sound from the double crystal seems to have two distinct tones, rather than a single repeating tone. Therefore wave 6 seems like a better match to me.
I left this area thinking that this may actually be a bug.
If a dev sees this, can you please confirm this is working as intended?
The pictures do not represent tonality, they only represent the volume envelopes/waveforms of each sound.

After having discovered the real solution, though, I question how I didn't at least consider the possibility that the very similar other waveform could be appropriate as well. :)
Congrats on shipping a fantastic game, by the way!
But you see, the issue here is the human brain doesn't come equipped with a perfect waveform generator. We can't easily separate tonal readings from volume. At least not in this case.
If this puzzle featured a machine that printed out the waveform and then we had to compare them with a chart, everything would be fine.
But we don't.
All we have is the intrepretation of the sound that our brain can manage to generate.
And according to that interpretation, the sound from the double crystal sounds a lot more like wave 6...
And in the case of this particular puzzle, that's really bad, because this puzzle doesn't give any feedback whatsoever on whether we are in the right track or not.
So how to fix this?
I think the simplest fix would be open wave4 in audacity or something, remove the second part, and copy the first part to it's place. So that both parts have the exact same volume and tone.
Another solution would be to take drawing 6 and flip it over a vertical axis. That way it would look more distinct from drawing 4. But in that case it may become too similar to drawing 8...
