Skull Light Puzzle
Has anyone figured out the logic behind the Skill Light puzzle solution?
I have seen the solution in the walkthrough, but it still makes no sense.

****** This should be obvious, but this whole thread will be SPOILER territory ******

The one hint, with the arrow, made me think that maybe it is number based. Meaning the four symbols in order are 1, 2, 3, 4. For the most complex symbols, they are all combos of these basic ones. So maybe they are they equal the addition of their parts X = 1+4 = 5. But this does not give us any better pattern to go by either.

So has anyone figured out what the premise of this puzzle is? AM I missing some important hint?

The diagram with the arrow is the order of the symbols.

You need to set each side of the skull to that symbol.

The diagram in the treasure chest shows you what symbols correlate to what circle.

The trick is that some of the symbols are overlapping. So an "X" is used for both the "\" and "/" symbols.

OK, I think I might of figured it out. It is not that complicated, and involves some trial and error. Based on how the puzzle does not reset with a wrong try, I think the trial and error method is the one expected.

the hint with the arrow is half the solution. / Is the first part of the first soluition. only one symbol contains "/", third down on the left. SO select that one and try all the right side. You qill quickly get teh right solution. Now the next character is "|", which is only available on the right side, so move the right beam to it, that is the second solution. Repeat this pattern until you have solved all four.

You don't need trial and error. In the case of "/" you would select the "/" symbol on the right side and the "X" symbol on the left side because that contains both the "/" and "\" symbols.

Ixiv is right on this one! The symbols are overlapping, and there are 2 'copies' of each symbol - on in the left and one in the right column

I figured it out. The four symbols on the blacksmith are the ones you need. And the symbols on the chest correspond to the positions of the lights. So, for the first part, you need a front slash. From the chest, you can see that the front slash in only in first column third row and second column second row, so that's the lights you need before pulling the lever for the first time.

Correct!

In case anyone was as baffled by this puzzle as I was, here's my breakdown. The paper sign shows the order the symbols need to be inputted.
/ is 1, | is 2, - is 3, \ is 4.
The chest has the the positions on the rock. For each circle, write down the corresponding number from the paper.

- and \ is 3 and 4, | is 2
O is nothing, / and \ is 1 and 4
/ and | is 1 and 2, O is nothing
O is nothing, - is 3

So that gives you
34 2
O 14
12 O
O 3

First, set the skull eyes to
O O
O X
X O
O O

Second, set the eyes to
O X
O O
X O
O O

And so on

Can you please explain the logic behind the second row (left to right) of the chest symbols (0-1-4) translating into third-light, first-light (top to bottom) on the second row?

So, this has absolutely nothing to do with numbers.
First paper clue tells you which symbol has to be lit up, left to right and top to bottom for each light row.
Second paper clue shows you the symbols in the crystal lenses on the wall.
Like @Myamo showed, the first row is third glass, second glass because the second paper clue has the ( / ) figure on those glasses.
