You have two consoles, one which is to rotate the towers/lenses, and one with which you can determine which towers are active. There is a hint on the table with the right directions. Notice that the console with the 4 switches, which you can use to select which towers you want to raise and rotate has a lever, which changes up the pattern of each button (so basically you have not 4, but 8 buttons to interact with). Your main goal is to raise the tower on island A with the lever near the broken bridge, and get back on island A - that is why you need to follow the pattern and connect the additional towers.
Here is how I usually solve the puzzle: I start with the first one (lower left tower) and rotate it to the right angle following the hint, than I move on to the next one etc. It sounds really grim written down, but the easiest way to understand the puzzle (which is one of the most complex puzzles in the game) is to watch a Let's Player do it - who preferably has a nice explanation of the challange. I think the right choice should be Afterwork Gaming, who explains and solves this puzzle swiftly and logically.

(the puzzle starts around 15:14, its only 15 minutes of puzzle solving, and it will worth your time!)
Woah. Thanks for the reply. As I said I really want to enjoy this game but this puzzle became a bit of an inhibitor for me. I don't think this puzzle is badly designed (I know my title suggests otherwise. I have been in a bit of a bad mood trying to solve this) however I would like to suggest that some kind of reset be added to this puzzle as I get the impression that if you start wrong with this puzzle you kind of have to reload a save to get it back to a less chaotic state.
Thanks again man. this is way more than I was expecting when I posted this.
You can access savegame files at:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Zadbox Entertainment\Quern
or if on a Mac:
/Users/<UserName>/Library/Application Support/unity.Zadbox Entertainment.Quern
The AppData folder is hidden by default, see this how-to on how to make them appear:

Thanks a bunch! Ill use this if I cant solve it any other way.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i just worked out what the lever does. I had been trying to solve the puzzle without it all this time. You might want to add some kind of click sound effect for changing the position of the level as I thought I wasn't suposed to use it yet becuase it sounded like it had failed to "lock" when I moved it.
Thanks for such a great game BTW. I'm sorry I had to pester you for the solution.
Absolutely no problem, that's my job, after all :)
I had been trying for days also. Thank you so much for posting this save file. Kept me enjoying the game again!!
