My game crashes on startup on Windows 10 1909.

Right-click Quern in your Steam library, click Manage, Browse Local Files. Navigate to Quern_Data\Plugins\GalaxyCSharpGlue.dll - right-click the file and rename it to something else (anything). Thank you Steam user cyanic for the info and quick solution.

My game crashes on startup (before getting into the menu), what should I do?

This is an issue brought to our attention on 11.03.2019. and is probably caused by the latest Nvidia driver: 419.35 - The reporter used an RTX2070.

To fix the issue please run the game in directx9 mode. Right-click Quern’s icon and type "-force-d3d9" after the icon’s destination (It should look something like this: ...\Quern - Undying Thoughts\Quern.exe" -force-d3d9) OR navigate to your Steam library, right-click Quern, go into Properties and write this in the LAUNCH OPTIONS textbox at the bottom of the window: -force-d3d9

How long is the game?

The main story takes about 15 hours to play through, but it can vary depending on your previous experience with similar games.

How do I rebind the movement keys?

Navigate to your Steam library, right-click Quern, properties, and click set launch options. Type "-show-screen-selector" without the quotation marks. You will be able to configure the movement keys in the input tab of the launcher that appears when starting the game.

I have motion sickness while playing Quern. What should I do?

There are three things you should change in the Gameplay settings: Turn off head-bob and motion blur and increase field of view for a less sickness-inducing experience.

My game crashes on the loading screen. What should I do?

Loading the game takes up a lot of video memory. Try lowering your resolution and shadow/texture quality. Another problem could be that the game does not use your dedicated GPU (if you have one), but your integrated one. You can make sure Quern uses your stronger GPU in the Nvidia Control Panel / Catalyst Control Center, or by disabling automatic graphics switching if you own a Mac.

I am playing on two different computers or I want to reinstall my system. Where can I find my savefiles?

On windows:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Zadbox Entertainment\Quern

On Mac:
/Users/<UserName>/Library/Application Support/unity.Zadbox Entertainment.Quern

On Linux:
~/.config/unity3d/Zadbox Entertainment/Quern

I have bad performance on my retina Mac. What should I do?

The game will set its resolution to match your display’s native resolution - running the game in 4K is very demanding. Try running the game on lower resolution.

I have trouble playing with my controller. What should I do?

The controller support is only partial, meaning the you need a mouse/keyboard to operate some of the menus. To get the maximum out of your controller set “Xbox controller” as your control device under Settings - Controls (this might need an xbox controller emulator).

My character keeps spinning and it is impossible to control the game. What should I do?

This is probably caused by a controller or mouse driver interfering with the game’s input manager. Try the “Disable Controllers” option in the controls and/or try unplugging all currently unused controllers.

I have a strong Linux system, but the game has poor performance. What should I do?

Q: How do I rebind the movement keys?
A: Exit the game, restart it with "-show-screen-selector" added to the launch options, and configure the movement keys in the launcher that appears.

I'm a Windows user & cannot find this file entry at all in folders. I really want to play this game but havent been able to play since Feb's update. I'd stopped trying for awhile figuring a future patch may fix it but there hasnt been one, I've trie uninstalling/deleting the game files & reinstalling & the same issue occurs. Please help!

You have to look for the mentioned registry entry as a windows user:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Zadbox Entertainment/Quern

Press the Windows key+R or search for Run in your start menu. In the Run window type regedit and hit enter/return. This will bring up you registry editor. Use the left-side tree view to navigate to the mentioned registry entry and delete the Quern folder.

Regedit will alert you that you might break something, but you won't! :) This will just reset the game to factory defaults - options included, so you will have to readjust your settings as well. Good luck and Happy Holidays :)

Seems like on Windows 10 1909 there's something up with the GOG Galaxy DLL that's causing the entire game to crash on load. Renaming Quern_Data\Plugins\GalaxyCSharpGlue.dll seems to stop it. What would be better is not shipping Galaxy-related components in the Steam version.

My game is freezing when I set the texture quality high enough. It may be running out of texture memory or something.

I have a GEFORCE GTX 1050 Ti, which has 4 GB. Can I assume that's not enough for high texture quality, including shadows?

1920x1200. It happens 20-30 seconds after setting the texture/shadow quality high enough.
The display freezes but the game itself is reported by the OS as technically still responding, so it's easy to shut down and relaunch.

Looks like the cause was on my end. A few days after a posted this my graphics card gave out entirely.

Just installed a new one and everything looks like it's working correctly now.

I have a problem,. The game starts and when I click new game its loading, but then after the loading is finish i have only black screen. I can hear the game is starting even there is the writing for the instructions but everything is black...
How can I solve this problem ?
