Where to find ships
Alright, well I have reached the corvette and only Galleons are starting to pop up now. The Dutch hate me, I just paid the British off and The French...well they want their Brigs back. My Corvette, Hotspur (26+4) has suited me well till now. I just want something bigger and I have only made it as far as Port Royal. Any locations on where to find the ships that pack the punch? Or just by luck by going to a big enough port?

You can find frigates to buy in big ports, any bigger ships than that you will have to capture or build with blueprints(like Man O'Wars,2nd rates,1st rates and I think War Galleons too).

I already knew this, helped me earlier when Exeter and Hotspur engaged a small dutch force at Isla de Muerte.

You're not going to be able to find the large ships (man o'war, 2nd, 1st) for sale. You have to board them or blueprint build them. They start spawning in fleets and ports as soon as you purchase enough maps. The more maps you purchase, the better the ships you'll encounter everywhere, including ports where you've been fighting little brigs. If you're not prepared and buy too many maps, it can be challenging fighting the large ships that emerge. A single 1st rate can completely wreck a fleet of corvettes that try to attack head on.

I thought as much, but hey! Got my first Galleon! Named her renown, however the Hotspur was nearly lost. Sadly Exeter was sunk, but for a good cause. Fair Seas!
