War Galleon can get a good 15 knot (with all upgrades) , have more guns and a little more crew. (and a lot more storage room).
pure speed i'd say corvette, if you want more firepower, more crew to get slightly bigger ship, war galleon.
You can find corvette in open world or buy them in big port. You can also find blueprint in open world in shipwreck and then build one in one of your owned port.
To board, upgrade a first rate all the way and just lumber straight on over to the ship you want. Board and capture. When attacking a town, they never flee. When attacking a slave ship, they flee at a whopping 4 knots. Just ballchain their sails and capture. If you want to save a few sailors, slap it with a cannon barrage and a grapeshot barrage. I don't recommend it, though, as you'll spend more money on repairs and cannonballs then you would on sailor replacements.
I've read all the guides and for some reason everbody praises the galleon and war galleon. There complete garbage lol.
Corvette and Snow as equally as fast as one another.
Both can go at 19.1 knts with rum and 22.9 knts in storm.
Stats on papers show the Schooner as the fastest ship in game. (I have yet to test what its max speed are, considering vanilla stats are shown in Book of ships as 11.4 compared to 11 for both previously mentioned ships.)
I've gotten up to 16.2 knots without full upgrades, and it's got more crew with better boarding stats as well.
Plus, they look pretty darn cool
I am currently using a clipper and let me tell you it is very very fast. Mine is fully upgraded and goes upto 19.2 full sails in normal circumstances and 23 during a storm. And with this single ship I have crushed the pirate confederacy and the WIC along with a port (though I have my own secrets and a pirate never reveals his secret). It is available at the port La Ceiba(French port north of Panama) for about 1500.
For boarding I will recommend 1st rate for the reasons my fellow pirates have mentioned.
