Haven't played Fate/Extra!
Should I play this game if I haven't played any previous games?

references in extella will make more sense to you if you have played extra but is not necessary, extella continues the store of the first game but in an entirely new setting.

However i suggest you play extra first
Its a very good VN overall and a decent Persona clone gameplay wise if that tell you anything.
Also it runs just fine on emulator - shame that we can't get it legaly on pc, cuz i would love to see it in my steam library :shigure2:

If you don't feel like playing it, you could alternatively watch gameplay. I think it'd better watching it with Nero or Tamamo as the chosen servant. But I suggest playing over watching gameplay.

It's recommended, but not mandatory. I went into this game on PS4 without having played Extra and CCC, and I don't feel like it hindered the experience. Maybe just read up on some summaries of what transpired in the previous games, along with a general knowledge of how the Fate universe works (the anime are sufficient for the latter).

You don't have to play fate/EXTRA but I would highly recommend it, as the game follows Nero and Tamamo's character development from /extra

Even if you play Extra. Extra CCC was never localized so in other words, don't worry about having enough background. Know what a servant is? Know what a Holy Grail War is? Then go and have fun on release day or whenever you can get the game.

Well, Fate/Extra, Extra CCC and Extella are technically connected to each other, and the story might confused you if you don't know the Extra and CCC, but if you have the general knowledge about grail war, servant and such thing, then why not try it, tho you might not get the story that much.

if you haven't played the earlier games or gone through one of the VN's then watch ANY of the Fate/ anime. Then just add sifi super computer on the moon to it.

You don't need to play the VN's or watch the anime, however I would recommend you seriously try Fate/Extra, not only is it an excellent game, but it gives a good idea of what is happening in this game, it also explains more about the universe and the character, given Grand Order is a direct Sequel to where Extra ended.

Also, someone mentioned Extra CCC, you don't need that game since it works as a paralel reality. It's simply a what-if scenario.
