nice to hear that your kids love the game and thank you for the feedback. We will consider that for our final balancing before the release leaves early access (end of this year). Maybe we raise the available energy a little more. But we wanted to keep the tamagotchi-like concept of not playing through the whole game in one pass but instead looking after the kitten each day.
Currently the only way to maximize the energy of the kitten is to keep it healthy. Doing actions that reduce the health of the kitten will reduce the available energy and also consume energy faster.
This means:
1. Avoid "overused" needs (if a need is overused, it signals it with a ( / ) sign). You should then avoid actions related to that need.
For ex.
If you do too much eating/drinking actions, the need for food will become overused. If you continue with feeding the kitten or let it drink, health will decrease.
2. When a need is urgent (pulsing / flashing) care about this need first. If the kitten has an urgent need and you do not care about it, its health will decrease.
For ex.
If the need "food" is urgent (large and pulsing/flashing) and you do not let the kitten eat / drink but instead let it play, health will decrease.
Health regenerates automatically over time but it will take some time.
Currently a healthy kitten can do 10-12 actions and up to 4 minigames per day before it runs out of energy.
The way the kitten is programmed, recovering all energy does not need a full day, instead just 12 hours. So you can (theoretically) play twice a day with full energy. Or just play and return 2 hours later to have at least some energy.
For the next release, we add a (hidden) parameter that resets the energy every time you start the game. Although the intention of this parameter is to make reviews of the game more easy, you will also be able to use it.
it's nice to hear that the kids love the game. But don't let them be in the virtual world too long without making pauses ;)
If you like the game, you can help us by writing a short review on steam. That's quick and easy and helps us getting more attention.
We are currently working hard for the last release. You'll really like it as it ramps up graphics again and brings some nice last features (highscores for minigames, a real tutorial, etc.).
* The cat now has 20% more energy per day
* The fortune wheel can now spawn up to 5 times a day.
* a new command line parameter "-reviewmode" has been added. This resets energy everytime the game is started. This mode is intended to be used by people doing reviews of the game but it can be used by anyone ;)
But, of course, there is much more to come with the new update:

So tiny as our dev team is, we do our best to make people smile with that cute little game.
