You can use the hologram numerals to access a control room behind the kitchen. There are a bunch of buttons, the only functional one opens up the armory. As Rust, you can grab a rifle.

Wait what? You can grab a rifle as Rust? I thought you could only do that with Lazarus.

This is a bit of a necro, but for any future readers who might be confused: Rust can't pick up any weapons, Lazarus can

I started the Lazarus chapter and immediately went into the armory and took the rifle . Did I skip a bunch of content? It seems like I was supposed to talk to the barkeep as the first step instead of doing what I did since it skipped me to what looks to be Vicious Galaxy 2, skipping over Vicious Galaxy 1?

It begins to be out of context in this discussion - you should have asked this in a new discussion, I think -, but anyway:
No, you're not supposed to play Vicious Galaxy 1. You start with Vicious Galaxy 2, it's just normal (actually the flashbacks of each character are in chronological order, or seem to be, and since Irving talks about VG1 as soon as Chandrelle's memories, it seems logical that we are in VG2 in Lazarus's ones).
