Random crash
I was playing perfectly fine until yesterday and now the game randomly crashed into the desktop. I tried restarting it but it insta-crashes again (I don't even get an error message).

Any ideas how to fix this ?

Hello! Don't suppose you've found a solution for this? After going through hell messing with resolutions for this game it randomly crashed during the third investigation and now it doesn't launch.

I don't know man (I have even forgotten about this post I made). Today though, after you reminded me, I tried running it again and it works just fine.

The only things I would recommend, (these little things have fixed most things for me), are :

1) Verify integrity of game files (library --> gameyouwant --> wheel at the right --> properties. In one of the categories you will find "verify integrity of game files", click on it, wait and try relaunching.

2) Reinstall (if you have cloud support it should save your game and you won't lose progress)

3) Exit and restart Steam. Sometimes, if you have Steam always running (like I do) it might skip updates and while most of them are minor, their "hanging" can impend some of your games. So, exit Steam relaunch, wait for the update(s) and try running the game.

4) In rare cases, windows (10) themselves will "hang" (as in, you play a game normally, close it and then you can't relaunch. In general, other programs too won't relaunch once closed like your browser.). If this happens (tested as mentioned above), restart your pc.

If nothing works then sorry mate !

The steam version straight up didn't work for me even after trying those fixes, so I refunded it and downloaded another version off of Internet Archive. I think I know why the crash happened though. (This is just my theory though.) Back in the day BFG required you to install their launcher along with any game you download off of their site. The launcher had 1 hour trials for every game on there. After you play for 1 hour the game kicks you out and refuses to launch again. You are then only left with the launcher and option to purchase the game. I think the versions of the game currently roaming around are free of the BFG launcher, but some part of code is still left in the game executable that forces it to shut down and not open again after 1 hour of playtime.

Downloading another version off of Internet Archive and simply replacing the bad .exe with the good one seems to have fixed the issue. I even kept my save this way.

Leaving this here if anyone in the future has this exact issue!
