Madam Fate Full Screen
I cannot get the game to fill the full screen on my Windows 7 computer. The "Full Screen" icon is dull while the minimize icon is bright. When I click on the Full Screen Icon, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong or is the game broken? Thanks for any assistance you may give me...

Did you try to check "Full screen" option in-game?

(It doesn't work for me, but I have Win10. Someone must be luckier, right?! :)

It's an older game that worked fine on XP, but Full Screen doesn't work for me on Windows 7, either. Too bad, it's a fun game with imaginative puzzles... Big Fish needs to do a modern HD update.

It's not game itself, but way Big Fish implemented protection for Steam, unfortunately. I have old shareware exes, from Reflexive site, and those works just fine. (Hmm, actually, I didn't try shareware from Big Fish itself... it could be the nice reason to report it again).

Checked. Yes, "native" BF installer works perfectly. Seems, something with Steam integration came into way.

I have windows 10, and full screen doesn't work for me either. Setting full screen puts the little window in the top left corner of the screen but does not change its size. Setting compatibility mode to vista or xp (tried both) didn't change this. Very poor.

Too bad that creators seems abandoned the issue - I didn't get any answer for both my reports, except "forget it, buy games at our online shop instead!"

This bug makes it so hard (and physically painful!) to play!

It doesn't work for me either but if you change your desktop resolution to 800x600 it'll fill the screen just fine - a simple workaround

This is a very old thread but if someone is out here looking for a solution to this issue, Go to the game location (Right click on the game in steam library -> manage -> browse local files; should open up the game directory).

There should 2 files in the directories called "Activatorfile.exe" and "Madame Fate.exe".

Right click on "Madame Fate.exe" and hit properties. Go to Compatibility tab and make sure you check Disable Fullscreen Optimizations.

Repeat the above step for "Activatorfile.exe" and the game should run fine when you run it.

Actually, I tried it, but for main exe only. Well, I tried to repeat this with activator. Still didn't work. Any more ideas?

My guess: either you did something else that missed in this solution, or problem is more complex. Like, screen resolution, videocard type or drivers. What card do you have, Tom?

Sorry, I just saw your comment today.

My graphics card is RX 5700 XT with latest drivers.

What exactly is the problem you're having?

Just as I said before. It's 800x600 window (and the same is true for all earlier Hidden Files games). If I am trying to go fullscreen, it simply goes to upper left corner, and locked there.

Huh, and as test shown, steam integration doesn't work for it at all - no F12, no overlay hotkeys. It enabled in properties, I checked. Moreover, if there is no WinXP compatibility set, game cannot be gracefully closed - Steam stays in "game is running" state, and I can only close whole Steam client to force it closed. *shrug* Well, I suspected that Steam integration is the main reason here right from the start. Because versions without it (from the Big Fish site directly, or from old shareware Reflexive version) works just right.

So let me give you the simple print screen...

Here you are. I bet, as I have GF970, it's the reason. But strange, yes.

I don't think it's just the Steam version. My mom has the old cd version and had this problem too. It ran fine the first time in fullscreen but the next time it opened up in a little window on the left of the screen.

Setting the desktop resolution to 1366x768 or lower has worked so far.

Hope this helps someone.

Edit: This was on windows7

The only one that worked for me was changing the screen resolution. Not sure if it is worth the effort - it really is an old game. Sigh.

yes resolution is bad need to remastered this game

Someone listed a fix for Return to Ravenhearst which works for this one, Prime Suspects, and Huntsville as well. Open your NVIDIA Control Panel, click on Manage 3D Settings, and then you'll get a list of options under "Globally". Choose Sharpening and GPU Scaling: make sure Sharpening is off and GPU Scaling is on and then the game should run full screen just fine.
