Birdseed lands on Steam VR October 8th

Sep 29

Happy news birders!

Birdseed will be landing on Steam VR on October 8th, 2026.

The SteamVR release will feature multiplayer with Meta Quest players, more lifelike bird behaviours, and camera customization through Scout’s Store.

SteamVR features:

Cross-platform multiplayer

Players will be able to go birdwatching with up to three friends across SteamVR and Meta Quest, using room codes to create a lobby or join a friend’s forest.

Camera customization in Scout’s Store

Scout’s Store will offer new lens skins, camera charms, photo frames and other premium cosmetics to personalize the birdwatching experience. Birdseed VR will be free to play, with no pay-to-win purchases.

More lifelike bird behaviours

Building on the Steam demo, the full release will add new animations and more expressive birds. Players will be able to observe pecking, perching, sleeping and even droppings, alongside more natural flight paths inspired by real birds.

Rewards for discovery and exploration

Documenting all of a bird’s behaviours in the Life List earns bonus equipment and cosmetics, with requirements varying by bird. Players can also collect weekly challenges in the Journal by signing in throughout the week and completing daily challenges. Completing weekly challenges unlocks special Trail Pass rewards.

Get ready to fly into the Steam VR version of Birdseed on October 8th! Completely free-to-play with cross platform multiplayer.

No journal

Hello. Would love to try the demo, but nothing happens when I press A. I see no field journal and nothing happens while sitting there for minutes. Quest 3 via cable link.

Multiplayer has landed in Meta Early Access!

Mar 13

The Birdseed multiplayer update has finally landed in Early Access on Meta Quest! Birding is better than ever with friends: share photos, exchange tips, and chat in this cozy birdwatching experience in VR 🎮.

This update is currently exclusive to the Early Access version on the Meta Horizon store, and will be coming to Steam VR in the future as well.

Social multiplayer is here 👥

With the new multiplayer feature, you can now create a room code to have up to 3 friends join you in VR. To join each other, simply enter the Multiplayer Tab in your Journal and create a customized room code or simply use the premade randomized one. And walla! You now have multiplayer in Birdseed!

Show off your 3-star photos with your bestie 📷

Snap a shot and share the pic! You’ll now be able to physically show off your photos, camera skins, and lenses to your birding companions just like you would during a real life birding session!

Access your Journal in a friend’s forest 📗

Want to still have access to all your goodies? Don’t worry, you still have your Journal even in multiplayer! Access your own Daily Missions, Inventory, and all your Journal’s contents even while playing in someone else’s lobby.

Just played the demo, questions!

So I just finished the demo, seems cute, seems like fun but have a few questions. Are there going to be multiple environments you can move around in, or is it a stationary game? Is anything going to be done to speed things up at all? Felt like there was a lot of standing and not as much picture taking. I don't need it to be blam blam blam, just wondering about the pacing. Enjoyed the demo but am not sure how it compares to the final expected game. Excited for this!...
