Dwalin the worst hero so far?

With the scoring system, Dwalin was the hardest hero for me to get max score on the campaign with. Taking him prevented me from taking threat mitigation, healing, or true offense.

I did pull it off by pairing him wiuth arwen and Tom Took, but it was dicey at times.

Sadly his "ability" barely brings him past Aragorn's starting stats, but injuries are a big negative score modifier, making using him effectively challenging to get a max score out of.

Anyone else underwhelmed by Dwalin so far?

I assume he'll get better once we get more dwarf card synergies?

I agree. Dwalin it rough to use since letting him fall so low is a real problem. That means he only sees that benefit right before he dies rather than all the time like Gimli. I'm used him with Arwen and Lore cards to snap him back to a reasonable level to try and get that bonus a couple times per game. Even still he feels less good than a hero who can more reliably use their ability.

Though already there are Dwarf target cards so if you want to up Dwarf synergy we have no other options. Putting the Dwarven Axe on both him and Gimli was nice when I paired them together. Dwalin was also underwhelming in the physical card game as well BTW :) At least here they have the ability to access him and potentially fix him if he's underperforming.

The larger problem is that the scoring system forces you to play a certain way and discourages deck creativity. Without the huge score penalty of hero damage, I think I'd like Dwalin quite a bit.

I'm using Dwalin a lot in my decks and he honestly feels stronger than Gimli once you have him tank a few hits, since he -starts- with the 3 atk while gimli has to let someone get hit before he gets buffed. He just has to have under 5, which is pretty simple to handle with meat shield allies and buffs. I often have either gimli or Eowyn tank for him after he hits 5 hp, using a raiment of war or other health boosts, since Dwalin doesn't like health.

I was coming in today to ask about Dwalin as I just unlocked him. He feels terrible to me. I usually compare the heroe's by color, since if I want leadership cards I have to choose Dwalin or Aragon. If I'm choosing between those 2, I can't find any situation I would want to chose Dwalin, unless I just really want to put a dwarven axe on someone

I think out of the context he is not bad, I like him buffed with some attachments and after he goes below 5 guard with allies as much as I can. I think he can become really strong, but sadly scoring system is just his perfect counter. Maybe in hard mode it could be more useful, just for farming? Not sure tho, for the moment

My real problem with Dwalin is his starting threat level -- it should be 9. I don't mind his modest stats and ability, but his starting threat should represent his weaker power.

That said, I have had some fun playing an Aragorn-Dwalin-Gimli deck to take advantage of Dwarf buffs and Khazâd ai-mênu! Currently, Dwalin is the only way to make this deck, so he's at least got that going for him.

If you play for palantirs, use Lore and keep Beorn's hospitality to heal him in the end.

I agree with Trunk muffin... I try to play with a little bit of theme, and do the best I can with the heros I got--- I try to do better each play, but trying to "play" tot he scoring system I find very unsatisfying... almost encourages a typical "min max" style of deck building to acheive... I like rolling with no healing decks.. stuff like that.... The achievments are a little more interesting as some of them DO encourage you test your play styles and try combos outside ones comfort zone.

I have a feeling he’ll come into his own more as the dwarf trait continues to grow.

Looking forward to making dwarf exclusive decks as the game gets fleshed out.

I think Dwalin is really fun, but I also agree with other people here that the scoring system prevents him from being widely played. FFI, please change scoring!!
