So open two windows in the same screen and log in to steam using different accounts. Most likely doable. Having multible players in one screen requires att least major UI overhaul.
1. I (Luke) like to play The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game two-handed, and so it's been a bit of a personal crusade to get this into the digital game.
2. There aren't a lot of games that provide this option digitally and it would be a cool thing.
3. New strategies give players new ideas and new ways to play the game. Two-handed basically doubles your options.
While multi-hand isn't technically on the roadmap and therefore can't be explicitly promised, it's certainly on our radar.
So good news! Yep, hot seat would not require new UI to have multible player visible at the same time, so easier to do along the multiplayer.
It is. Co-op will not be available for the start of early access, however, and this is mentioned many times. Co-op will be available either sometime during EA or "as a deadline" once EA is finished (and the game is released).
Playing multiple hands yourself is pretty fun in the physical game, and I think it would still make a great inclusion here as well (especially if they can mix that with co-op so you and a friend can play two hands each!).
The reason I had to make sure, is that some potentialy incredible games released recently did not have online coop (like Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time & Overcooked, plus others). 2018, and these games would make 20 times the money if they had online coop.
of course we need 2 steam accounts, 2 asmodee accounts etc, so its hard ot maintain 2 collections but, still doable probably, some virtual machine ;)
If you want to make a convincing argument for adding this feature, you can reference this poll, which shows that huge chunk of the player base for the physical game plays 2-handed: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1623812/poll-lotr-play-style
