Shatter mirror to save and quit?

Was this feature removed, or is there a specific way to shatter the mirrors? Tried hitting with weapon and using surge, haven't been able to shatter any mirrors.

My playtime now says 47 hours even though it's not really close to that, since I left a really good run up in the background while I went to work and did other things lol

edit:nevermind I just shattered a mirror in a boss room, guessing that's the only time it works as that was the first time I tried to smash one in a boss room. Might be a good idea to clarify this in the manual if so.
