As for the nostalgia factor, yeah, the game did shift a bit in art direction, the old ambiences really gave a vibe to it, but that's something that's partially solvable with mods. And for me it's worth it, this huge amount of modding support, that any game could envy, the semi-consistant update support by the devs, who by the way, also want the game to be successful, but not for the money, but because they genuinely love the game aswell, and was the best for it. They did these changes to Redline to try and give a 'freshness' to the game, and I'm pretty sure the veteran players also like this change aswell, after the many hundreds of hours they have spent with the old game.
Not to mention the huge ammount of quality of life improvements both ingame and modding wise. Like the hundreds of bugs fixed, the more stable modding support, the new little additions like Survival, Air Time or pickups. I think it's a fair trade, but again, mods can mostly get back best of both worlds. But it's possible that these mods don't exist, because of again, the small playerbase. That's why we appriciate new modders aswell, and try to make modding as friendly as possible, with tutorials and support on discord.
But believe me, all the devs, or rather, dev, because there's effectively only badguy left, who is working on the game in his free time (which we really appriciate, thank you so much!) want the game to succeed in players, because again, we love the game, not for the money, but for the game itself and it's community. And I think even Robert, one of the original devs for the game,
also really wants Crashday 2 because of the new possiblities and possibly original vision he wanted for the game. Sadly tho, it's not happening yet, because of not enough publicity.
So overall, I recommend playing Redline Edition, if you are willing to communicate with the community. Enjoy the benefits for Redline, try out the mods now easily playable, and try and play in multiplayer events. I hope it will be as enjoyable for you too as it is for me.
Thanks for writing this, was a good read.
I do enjoy Redline Edition, but multiplayer wise it's always dead, i saw a bombrun match going on yesterday but i couldn't join because i kept getting kicked for no reason, the players didn't want me to play i guess. Discord is definitely the only option then.
I'm more of a singleplayer person, i do play MP off and on but not all the time.
And while we are at mods, since you like singleplayer, you may enjoy career mods too. There aren't many sadly, but there's nice ones like "Blast's Custom Career" or "Alternative Missions", along with some Work In Progress ones not yet/soon to be released. Shakes the game up a bit and gives a nice challenge in my opinion.
Or maybe try out some of the many car mods, there are many opportunities on the workshop to try.
