ok .. this is a pre set up for the game scrap garden
and as such should be treated this way and not as a game in itself
altho it does have the beginings of one

this game is as the other game is beautiful in graphics and the developers have done a great job seeing as they are not funded or backed by big corporations such as WB or sony etc

the level design is rather simple and is very easy too complete in about 60 mins or so but this is not the point
the point is this tells you what happened just before the main game

there is some bugs in this and parts wher you can vanish thro the map etc but what is too be expected

its a free game with free achievements

as ususal i love the game as i did with the other one and think these developers are doing a great job

It's better than i expected, puzzles were smooth and it was generally fun throughout. The boss battle was like any boss battle should be, and the whole thing had a mild Ratchet & Clank vibe to it.

But i met some gamebreaking bugs that caused me to Alt + F4, for example if you go on one of the computers and try to view any file there is, you are going to get stuck with no way out. I nearly went insane after hacking one since I had no idea that you had to exit after, so i restarted and had to do the same area 4 times.
I also fell through the floor in the area near the robot salesman.

If you have some time to burn, try it out. But don't click on any of the files.

For a no-cost game, this one is quite good. Not exactly my kind of game, but I can appreciate what it is doing.

It is a platformer with puzzle elements, and there is some combat by jumping on enemies. Decent story, with cutscenes and voice-acting. I thought the music was very good and matched the gameplay, with robotic tones.

The graphics were a bit laggy, even after I turned down the quality. Did not keep me from playing three chapters, or so. I enjoyed this game on ubuntu linux 18.10 with radeon mesa drivers. I played with a keyboard and mouse. The game is 640 MBs and uses the Unity Game Engine.

Scrap Garden - The Day Before is a short puzzle game about a robot named Canny. It's a prequel to Scrap Garden (my review) and just like the title said, tells the story about what happened before that game started.

Pros:
- Optional, hidden areas that you can explore
- A tricky boss fight

Cons:
- Puzzles are not intuitive
- No manual save

My first impression when I ran Scrap Garden - The Day Before was that the cutscenes are blurred. I'm not sure if it's because my resolution screen didn't default to the highest one or not, but I just tweaked the settings a bit after finished playing to test it and the logo still looks blurred. I didn't have any issue with it, though, especially since the blur isn't noticeable except for the first few seconds of the game. The rest of the visuals look smooth enough, save for the collisions that took more space than they looked like.

I haven't played Scrap Garden yet, but even if this game is a prequel, you won't have to worry about missing out. There is almost nothing important that the game has story-wise, except for some additional information that is nice to have. The story is good enough for a 15-minute game, though. It concludes nicely and gives room for the sequel.

Gameplay
It can be confusing to play Scrap Garden - The Day Before if you don't know what to do. The game only gives vague instructions for its controls without letting you know what you can do with all that. Take the first area for example. You are told that you can throw objects, but it's hard to figure out which objects to throw, and where to throw them. I got stuck several times, including but not limited to the time when the game bugged one time and left me with no other choice but kill myself to reset the puzzle.

Checkpoints are available, but it's only given at the beginning of each chapter. Each chapter is short, although there are times when it would be better to have the checkpoints more spaced out, especially when you are covering a lot of ground. Enemies and obstacles might come your way, but they are easy enough to beat once you know where they are. You can beat them all the same way.

As a puzzle game, the game has a lot of puzzles. Don't expect too much from a 15-minute game, though. The puzzles are varied, but they are still basic in difficulty. You'll be able to finish them right away as long as you know the rule. Sometimes, figuring out how to do that will prove to be a challenge. This also applies to the only boss in the game. I didn't know how to damage it at first - it's actually simple once I knew how to do it, but the thought didn't come to me at first. You need to figure out everything that you can do and try anything that you can utilize from the environment.

Length and Difficulty
The game is only 15 minutes long. It's just that the game is quite grindy in the achievement department. You need to collect spares, which is a term of money in the game, kill enemies, and break boxes to a certain amount to get some of them, and they take longer than the game's length. It took me 1.4h total to get them all. As for the difficulty, it's easy to beat - there are times when you might get stuck, but you just have to find another solution that works for it, which shouldn't take long to do due to its difficulty.

The main menu is bugged if you press the Escape button on the language selection screen.

I didn't like Scrap Garden - The Day Before at first. I got myself stuck several times, not knowing whether it was because of a possible bug or not. The game is too brittle for me - I even got a bug just by tinkering with the main menu, and once I found a second one when I couldn't progress in the game, I became skeptical. Luckily, I didn't find any more bugs after that, but I had to be wary about the possibility of getting another bug while playing. My other nitpicks are how the trigger at the end of the chapter wasn't obvious, and how it's impossible to revisit the previous chapter even after you beat the game. However, the game is free, and it's very short anyway - you can just get back to where you want in a jiffy.

It's a shame that the developers didn't put in more time and love into this game, because there is a good game in here somewhere. The city hub is by far the best part, and I wish the entire game was like that because there is a lot of charm to the place, and exploration and platforming are a lot more fun than the crude combat. Later levels get shorter and shorter until they can be beaten in under a minute (the game can be beaten in under 10 minutes once you know where to go, most of which is unskippable dialogs), and generally just lack imagination. There is an achievement to kill 100 enemies, but the entire game has 15 total (including the boss), forcing the player to replay the game six and a half times... And the boss is a mole with magical powers - because that clearly makes sense. Meanwhile, there is a side-quest to find a missing robot that offers no reward whatsoever. I understand that this is a free demo for the actual game (Scrap Garden), but if you are going to give someone a taste, you better make sure it's damn near perfect. Annoyances like non-skippable cutscenes, no control over loading or starting a new game, lazy achievements designed to waste the player's time, and a lack of play testing ruin what could have been a good game. I mean, the player can walk down an alley in the city hub and find the end of the map because one of the alley walls is missing!

Figured I'd give this game a try after watching the trailer. Finished it within an hour and didn't get all the achievements but that doesn't matter to me. It was a cool game overall though. Nice graphics, control was easy when it came to moving around. Decent storyline, find a robot and beat a monster basically. Not sure if it was just me, but every time I picked up scraps, I'd have a minifreeze in game. During the story telling, you can't skip it no matter what buttons you push. DON'T press R otherwise it'd start the story over again. Easy and fun with some nice music as well.

A nice, short prequel at a great price! If you enjoyed Scrap Garden or might be interested in it, this is for you.

A poorly optimized game with a very hideous camera. Although there is a good story about robots and engineer I lacked variety in this game.

This game is the single greatest game ever. First off, let's talk about the graphics;

The graphics in this game are stunning, and that's coming from someone who's played all the big name games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Battle Field V, and Just Cause 4. I was very surprised when I first opened the game to see the modern masterpiece that is the start screen. I had to go back and double check that this was the same FREE game that I thought I was playing. Truly amazing.

The animation is another thing this game seems to have mastered. When people are speaking you can see each muscle in their faces moving individual, and their personality really shines with subtle animation tweeks that you only notice after replaying the game like I have so many times.

That leads me to my next point; re-playability.
I have over 1000 hours in this game and I've had so much fun. Sure, I will admit, the game doesn't take that long to complete, but that is to be expected from a free game. The thing is, re-playing the game is so much fun! With most games it gets boring after the first or second time, but with this game if anything it get more enjoyable! The creators make subtle hints and reference's all throughout the game, and noticing then after you've completed the game is always a thrill.

Another thing I love about this game is the plot. This plot could be made into a multi-million dollar movie, and no one would bat an eye at the script, that's just how expertly crafted this game is. It really is shocking how un-noticed this game is, and I'm sure with some proper marketing they could go world-wide (hit me up).

I'm really not sure why there are so many negative reviews on this game. To be fair, you have to have a really high I.Q. to understand this game. My best guess is that they got paid by some rival company to leave negative reviews. Not cool guys, not cool.

UPDATED: So far a really great game! Looks really good and is pretty interesting. I still get a little stutter when picking up screws, but other than that I haven't experienced any bugs since the latest patch (1.01). Had some issues on day 1 before the first patch, but the developer messaged me about them, let me know when the patch was released, and now it is much much bettter. Thank you :)
