Missing Area in Fast Travel?
I have almost completed the game, which I've really enjoyed. I’ve done just about everything except win that climactic last battle at the end (don’t know what I’m missing there, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out). Also, to be honest, there are still quite a few artifacts waiting to be collected, stuff that I never managed to locate... But even so, I feel like I’ve thoroughly explored the world(s) of Downward, and I would say I’ve certainly located all the main playable areas of the game.

So why, then, does my Fast Travel menu (the one you get by hitting a bell while holding ‘e’) include a blank square with a picture of a lock, labeled “you have not yet discovered this place”? This has been driving me crazy! I’ve explored all over the place: upwards, downwards, in-betweenwards... I’ve managed to get to all the obvious hard-to-reach areas, from the remote aeries and impossibly high perches to the sewer tunnels and underground labyrinths... But there’s just nothing more to be found. It seems impossible that I could have missed an entire major area.

I think it far more likely that a place I have indeed been to and explored simply never registered my presence there, thus keeping the corresponding Fast Travel menu item locked. The places that do appear in my Fast Travel menu are: Crossroads, Winter Sea, Sanctuary, and Merchant’s Lair. The still-locked destination appears between Winter Sea and Sanctuary on the menu. Can someone at least tell me the name of the area that’s supposed to go in that slot?

I’m going to feel amazingly stupid if it turns out I really did miss a major area, but at this point I don't care. I’ve been deliberately putting off that final boss battle until after I’ve experienced everything the game has to offer. Hmmm, now that I think about it, maybe the missing area is only revealed after you defeat the woman in the finale? That would be annoying, considering all the time I spent specifically searching for it before attempting the final fight. In any event, at this point I just want to know, I need to know… Can anyone help me out with the name of the locked area? Thanks.

Hi almechist!
To unlock fast travel you need first to unlock the relevant skill (which you did) after that in every area there is a portal, you should pass under that portal if you want to unlock the fast travel in that area! The portal that you missed is the ore inside the Deep Crater area, entering the area after the little tunnel turn right, it is on a T-shape structure.
Also if you like check this guide for the alternative endings made by the community http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1110506865

Ah, thank you. As I suspected, a place I have indeed explored. I actually was hoping I'd overlooked something obvious, that there was more stuff to explore that I hadn't yet seen, but I knew that was really unlikely.

Good game, especially for a small team, I will work on writing up a review once I beat that last bit.

Finally a solution :) I agree that is a rather bad placement for a major area teleportation gate :) Had exactly the same issue. Things for this game are virtually impossible to google due to the generic name. Finally found the gate you mentioned. It is far from the entrance, turned sideways and elevated on a high platform. I had a feeling it will be in this zone as each major zone has one, but had no idea where to start looking. It might also be a good idea to replace the fast travel icon from completely blank to the actual area (just not available yet) after you enter the area the first time.
