In the books he had an unhealthful obsession with Henry, to the point that he no doubt resented Henry's marriage and family. It doesn't sound like Afton was lacking for anything, as he had plenty of money to build secret underground lairs with and was far more trusted and well-liked than Henry, yet he still did everything in his power to make Henry suffer.
William never "meant" to kill his children, he told his daughter to not go near the robots anyway... as for his son.... well idk, I think he told him to keep away to. Both his children got to close and well.. The son got bit and the daughter turned into ice cream>>

I completely agree with you.
In the games he seems to have a different reason for killing the kids than in the books. In the books is out of jealousy, because he wished a family for himself, he wished to be loved. But in the games it’s seems to be out of sadism.
