Ballora's eyes, why do you think they are closed?
So I was browsing some fan art and I thought about this detail again, but i couldn't come up with any ideas so I decided to hear what other people thought.

Basically this is a thread where you can comment your theory's or ideas on why ballora usually has here eyes closed.

I personally find this detail very interesting, if you are also interested in details like this, feel free to comment your thoughts.

(Hopefully I'm not violating any rules with this thread)

EDIT:

1 thought that me and a friend came up with earlier is to do with Ballora being sound activated.

In the game she only opens here eyes when she finds you, she then knows for certain someone is there, my theory is that she is programmed to activate fully when there are other people around, which includes here eyes.

During the game when you crawl through her Gallery i don't think she knows there is anyone around (at least until you head back)

So basically, i think that when there is no one around she moves around on her own like we see in the game, but during the day when she is in active use she is fully active, including her eyes.

Just a guess though.

She's blind (not joking)
So she doesn't see Michael's hell of a face.

She's probably blind because Handunit mentioned that she finds you by hearing your movements, that's why you were provided with a flashlight and the reason as to the room being dimly lit. Funny, now that I think about it, you use Ballora's tactic against her. Because she listens for you and you listen for her. Anyway, I think the only problem with this theory is that she was provided eyes anyway. Or she simply can't open the eyelids without opening the faceplates around them which seems explainable since when she jumpscares you on Night 2 her faceplates trigger her eyes open as well. BUT in the trailer she jiggles moves her cheek faceplates slightly and that doesn't seem to effect the movement of the eyelids at all. OR it's a design choice. Idk it confuses me slightly and is a bit trippy to think about lol. I think I am on the right track though imo.

Have of Ballora's name is close to the word "Balor", which is a demon, that keeps its eye closed most of the time it's awake, and only opens it eyes when angered or threatened.

Because in the inner part of the eyelids there is a TV. She's watching The Immortal and The Restless... that why if you make too much noise, she get angry.

Best theory 2017

Maybe because her eyes don't fit her sockets and that would look kind of scary for children.

I've seen that theory before, and personal I don't think it's the case.

The eyelids look like they can open without the face plates being open, at least to me.

Maybe that Is the case, it is scott after all, though I'm thinking of this from an in game pov.

But then why would she have eyes in the first place if they where built at that size to be to scary for children?

Maybe because the animatronics need eyes to function, regardless of whether they're used or not?

How would that work though?

I mean, why would they need eyes to function?

Hmm... because their system always checks to see if their eyes are there or not, and if they're not, they change into "maintenance mode" because the system believes they are being repaired.
