Here's my ultimate view: MatPat makes a lot of mistakes. This is because he caters his videos to an audience that want to be entertained. So while his videos overall hold water, if only in their core concept, they don't always hold water because he will knowingly skip the finer details to keep it fun to watch. Is this the right way of doing it? Maybe not. But it's still his job (literally) to entertain. And a lot of people on the internet do the same thing. Including that very article. It uses blanket statements, opinions, and stretches points to make a conclusion. In other words it does the exact thing that you can accuse MatPat of.
he didnt achieve anything in his life
Now, say what you will about the speculation itself, but the evidence that he gathers, from both the games and real life, always astounds me.
I've never played Earthbound, but I believed, and still believe, that Sans might be Ness.
In fact, the only reason I would say it's denied is not because of some stupid hardcore fans of Earthbound ranting: "WTF? Are you crazy? Sans is not Ness because I say he's not Ness! Stop trying to ruin my life!" but because "Toby Fox" (airquotes because Idk whether that's his official Twitter or a fakie) cursed the theory and MatPat himself out.
If you watch the theory, again, the evidence actually kinda makes sense, and putting the Earthbound Halloween Hack into play, also makes it fit together nicely.
MatPat even said during their playthrough of the hack that if you don't like something, don't watch it, or just agree to disagree, there is absolutely no reason why you need to tell someone to kill themselves just because they don't agree with your beliefs. (Unless you're Liberal or a SJW)
Guys, (and I'm saying this as a general thing) stop hating on MatPat and other people, the guy works his butt off researching ALL of this stuff for YOUR entertainment.
Don't like the theory or the research, don't watch, don't like, go watch something you enjoy and agree with, but don't start any wars and just generally be hateful of the YouTuber, that doesn't help things. :)
And always remember that ALL celebrities, YouTube and otherwise, are still human beings like us. They have feelings too, and no matter how the media portrays them, they're mortal, and can die at any moment, just like any other human being. (Though, clearly, the death of a celebrity by old age is apparently worth more attention than, I dunno, numerous young people killed by a bomb, or a gun, or suicide...need I go on?)
Sorry about the rant, OP. :P
His theory on Metroid's Etecoons and Dachoras gets two major things wrong.
MatPat claims it's never explained how the BSL station got infected, however, at the beginning of the game it is stated that the X parasites that infected Samus's suit used a Power Bomb to break out of confinement and spread.
MatPat completely ignores that the ship's computer specifically confirms that the Etecoons and Dachoras aboard the ship are not X hosts.
which you can easily check for yourself if you don't trust tvtropes
or this one
In The TF2 Pyro...Male or Female?, MatPat uses the Pyro's finger length as evidence. However, the Pyro is wearing gloves that could have easily obscure the real finger portions. In addition, he claims the Pyro has schizophrenia because of the "Meet the Pyro" video, where he hallucinates he is in a Sugar Bowl. However in game, the Pyro only suffers from these hallucinations when wearing the Pyrovision Goggles, an item that any class can wear and has the same effect regardless.
It really doesn't, for the reasons that I have already explained.
This is pretty much the reason I'm even responding to this comment. So you're saying that I can't criticize something that I find to be objectionable? You're saying I can't express my opinion to others, even if I'm being constructive about it? We can't discuss over this matter in the slightest because people can't deal with a disagreement? Because that's certainly how it sounds.
Which is the exact reason why I would criticize him in the first place. I want to see MatPat make great quality content for his channel. But if I find that he half-asses a video and ends up misrepresenting a game as a result, I'm going to call him out on it, because I expect better out of him.
I agree that senseless hate is never helpful to anyone. But if someone is sharing legitimate, constructive criticism against anyone for any reason, then they have the right to call them out for it. That's how you grow and improve. You may like what they have to say at times, but it's needed.
Very true. But again, that doesn't shield them from criticism. Getting flack from doing what you love sucks. It always does. But it should always be expected when you're as popular as someone like MatPat. You're never going to please everybody, that's a simple common fact of life.
Matpat tries to make his theories seem valid, but each theory he makes just gets more and more ridiculous. He made a Pokemon Go theory. A literal Pokemon Go theory about how Team Mystic was destined to be the best from the start. It was just... stupid. The only reason Team Mystic would dominate everyone else would be because more people chose it.
