Hi everyone!

It’s now been a little over a week since Spiritstead launched, and we wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has played, left a review, shared feedback, reported bugs, or shown us their villages. ❤️

We’ve been reading through your comments and discussions since launch, and we’ve already released updates addressing some of the most common feedback, including expanded visual settings, Bloom being disabled by default, bug fixes, and the new Summon Rain God Power.

We’ve also noticed a few questions coming up regularly, so we’ve put together a Spiritstead FAQ covering gameplay questions, achievements, technical issues, Steam Deck, controller support, Mac, and more.

What to expect from Spiritstead

We also wanted to clarify what kind of experience Spiritstead is for anyone who is considering picking it up.

Spiritstead is a small, laid back village building game focused on growing your village, managing resources, discovering spirits, completing quests, and progressing through its different biomes.

A typical playthrough takes around 3-5 hours, depending on how quickly you progress and how much time you spend building and exploring. You can continue playing afterwards to expand your villages, unlock anything you missed, and experiment with different layouts.

What are we working on?

For now, our main focus is continuing to improve the existing game based on the feedback we receive.

We’re looking at balancing, quality-of-life improvements, bugs, and other commonly reported issues.

We know there has also been a lot of interest in Steam Deck, controller support, and Mac. You can find more information about the current situation for each of these in the FAQ. We don’t want to promise features or release dates until we know for certain what we can deliver.

Spiritstead is Now Available on Steam!

After almost two years of development, Spiritstead is finally available on Steam! 🥳

What began as a small project we thought would take around four months grew into our first full game as a team. Along the way, we went through redesigns, stubborn bugs, countless playtests, and many late nights, but we kept going and finally made it across the finish line. ❤️

We also want to give a huge thank you to the WINGS team. Their support allowed us to make Spiritstead into the game it is today. They guided and encouraged us throughout development, and we learned so much from having them by our side. We truly could not have asked for a better team to support us on this journey.

And thank you to everyone who played the demo, shared feedback, wishlisted the game, created content, or supported us throughout development. We truly hope you enjoy exploring the world of Spiritstead!

Spiritstead is available now with a 10% launch discount for the next two weeks.

Important note for demo players

The full game has changed significantly since the demo, so demo save files are not compatible with the release version. Although an old save may still appear in the menu, continuing it could cause bugs. Please start a new game for the best experience.

Cute, charming, but a little overwhelming

I picked this up largely because the art immediately reminded me of the old Asterix & Obelix books. It has that lovely, colourful, hand-drawn charm that brought back some very fond memories. The game itself has nothing to do with Asterix, of course, but that visual style was enough to pull me in.

And there is a lot to like here. Discovering spirits, exploring new areas, unlocking tower bonuses and gradually watching the village grow are all genuinely satisfying. There’s something very nice about seeing everything slowly come together.

However, I have to admit that the game has also frustrated me quite a bit.

Early on, there is a lot of gathering and micromanagement. Getting your villagers to do the things they need to do can feel more like managing chores than building a magical little village. At one point, having to manually drag villagers to the outhouse nearly made me ask for a refund!

Things do improve as you unlock more options and gathering resources like eggs, wool and... well... poop becomes easier. However, I often found myself wishing this was a little more of an idle/management game where I could make the important decisions and then mostly watch my village get on with things.

I've also found some of the systems surprisingly difficult to understand. The pet/spirit system in particular left me scratching my head and I've spent coins trying to figure out things that I felt the game could have explained more clearly.

So, despite all that, I'm still playing.

There's something charming underneath the frustration and I want to see where the village, spirits and exploration eventually lead. I'm not very far into the game yet, so perhaps some of my confusion will disappear as I unlock more.

Cute, charming and full of potential, but be prepared for a fair bit of micromanagement and some head-scratching along the way.

How to get Old Kasper?

I basically completed the game and he is only missing spirit. "Have 3 abandoned houses after villagers move out" - i putted over 3 old towers and norhing .... Please help!

I played through twice to get all the achievements across two days, and I gotta say, even playing two save files back to back I didn't get bored. It's a cozy, laidback game that's great if you don't want to think too deeply and you like decorating. I really enjoyed placing things just so in my little neighborhoods, and it was entertaining trying to use the hints to unlock the spirits for the first time. I also liked the fishing and frog mini-game. The scratch-off mini-game was the most boring one to me, and even then it really wasn't bad. Overall I highly recommend this game, especially for the price.

I loved this game. Exactly what i was looking for, cutesy world builder. some civilization management but on the very easy side. The story was cute. graphics cute. and it wraps up fairly quickly I did about 8 hours of gameplay and unlocked everything in the game. I did realize late game to get one spirit you have to have 3 citizens leave... which meant creating terrible conditions for them to be forced out.. wasn't a fan of that, but i get why it was a checklist item. If i hadn't played hundreds of these types of games before I could see that one being an easy unlock early in the game. over all I would 1000% recommend to someone who is looking for a quick laid back indie game.

People mentioning poor graphics or bugged game issues with achievements, I did not have that experience at all.

issue getting game to start

I cant seem to get the game to get past the placing of the first house, it wont let me even put it down. It also wont allow me to change the screen format. Am I the only one with this issue? I couldn't get a refund since apparently demo plays are considered time played. Which is ridiculous....

Absolute dumb question, I guess. But how do I get him? Put a dog into the hospital... What dog??? I've got sheeps, alligators, deers and whatever, but what dog? I have to be blind bc I really don't know what to do. And I guess it's really easy, according to the description too...

Two Peppoks?

Hi! First of all, I just want to say that I am ABSOLUTELY LOVING the game. That said, maybe I'm just being too stupid :D I can't figure out how to beat a certain mission. It tells me I need to put two spirits to work on the same crystal, so I assume that means two Peppoks, right? I think? The thing is, if I grab another chicken and put it on the fire for more than 3 seconds, I don't get a Peppok... what am I doing wrong?...
