Is this game like Nuclear Dawn?
I've seen a couple minutes of this game and it immediately reminded me of Nuclear Dawn. Not so much the 5v5 squads, but rather the fps/rts gameplay. Having a commander that gives orders and builds/upgrades things, while the other players are battling it out. Add to that having classes, permanent account leveling up for new unlocks for your classes, and you had a ton of playtime with a server based, up to 16v16 multiplayer game.

Is there anyone here who has played this game, and Nuclear Dawn, and knows if they are at all alike?
If there is anyone here that has played this game and hasn't played Nuclear Dawn, maybe they could watch a video of Nuclear Dawn gameplay and tell me if the games are similar?

I have both but haven't played Nuclear Dawn in years. The only thing I can remember is that I though Nuclear Dawn was not very good and it is under my NOT-SO-GOOD category in the Steam Client. I haven't played Eximius in months but remember thining it is good. But later today I'll reinstall Nuclear Dawn and play both a little and let you know how they compare.

Eximius is definitely similar to Nuclear Dawn in a lot of ways, there will be both people on the ground playing the FPS portion and a commander looking over them in the RTS view. The commander builds up the base while the officers on the ground will be fighting to gain control over resources and territory.

The biggest difference which is what sets Eximius apart from pretty much every other FPS/RTS hybrid is the ai units. Unlike games such as Nuclear Dawn and Natural Selection 2 which are exclusively player vs player, Eximius is far more in depth with its RTS elements and still allows the commander to produce units. The units that are produced can then be either assigned to a player to follow and protect them or be directly micro-managed by the commander.

Although the game is only 5v5 as opposed to the 16v16 of other such games there is no less going on with the addition of commander controlled units. In a match with well balanced teams there are always fights on multiple fronts utlising players, infantry, vehicles and various kinds of commander abilities.

As for the account levelling and unlocks, i do believe these are planned to be implemented into eximius at a later date along with mod support and likely custom servers.

Yeah I was wondering what they meant with squad officers and a commander, as it made it sound like each of the other 4 players will be having their own groups. I'm hoping the 4 squad officers have some say in what units they command, or if they have their own units they auto generate.
That style probably works better over the long run too, as you have less players necessary to get a good game going. In addition they could potentially even make understaffed games possible with missing squad officers controllable by the commander, or maybe AI squad officers.

Each officer can have up to 6 infantry units assigned to them at a time, this can be almost any infantry unit, including the likes of engineers and medics. What an officer can do with their assigned squad is currently very limited, you can tell your squad to retreat back to base and you can tell assigned engineers to capture resource points. The devs have said they will be implementing more squad commands for officers such as take cover, hold position, attack here etc. Officers do not have auto regenerating units and it is up to the commander to create and assign the units to the officers. Finally, there are already ai controlled officers that do fill in the missing player slots in PVP matches, the commander can control them like any other ai unit. Although the ai officers do have a small degree of autonomy so it tends to make microing them a bit of a pain.

I played both and a lot of natural selection because i like the RTS/Shooter mix.

As i can tell after 5 hrs Eximius is going to be ony of my favorites because it feels way more like an RTS then ND or DS2. In ND you keep pushing your lines and expanding. In Eximius u rely way more on your field commanders and assign units to them but unlike in NS2/ND you can also do many things yourself without having need of an field comm sticking around.
