So since the AI doesn't even try to challenge you by racing, now Death Race just feels like Classic Carma where you're forced to do laps and occasionally steal a lap if an AI car even bothers to finish one (in my experience if they're not aiming for you, they're just wandering around the map aimlessly).
It's not just Death Race either. I can understand them aiming for you in Classic Carma since it's an open mode but the objective-based modes really suffer now because of it. Very disappointing imo
Thanks for info Sir STRoadWarrior.
Stainless Games Ltd please fix.
or
Someone please help Stainless Games Ltd
by making a Racing Mod for the game.
If you are racing in this game you are playing it 100% wrong.
This game is fully moddable if you never want to progress in it.
There are numerous threads and posts.
#knowledge is power.
I suppose maybe I don't understand what update to the AI you are referring to.
While I do realize different players want different things, I never noticed the AI in this game doing laps in any mode except one. Hotlapping in this game really doesn't exist in career mode.
The open world design of this game allows for the AI to wander around, seemingly unfocused on anything besides destroying you, hence the lap stealing option. I have run laps in this game, but to try to race around ignoring the peds and powerups takes the fun out for me. I'm sure others feel differently, and that's ok too.
This game has "Nostalgia Factor" for me, more than anything else. I never even considered it to be a racing game. It is destruction derby in an open world with crazy cars and crazy AI opponents.
If you like racing and destruction, Gas Guzzlers Extreme is a really good choice. There are real race modes, and lot of other modes. Crazy weapons mounted on crazy cars.
I highly recommend it.
This game is faithful to the original is a lot of ways. It satisfied me for the most part.
I was glad to see the release of Max Damage, though I will always like Reincarnation just a little more.
But I wanna play Carmageddon! :D
I like playing Carmageddon for what it is and its style.
But yesterday I felt like playing a racing game with powerups,
destruction and the chance of hitting some random pedestrians.
And since Carmageddon has Checkpoints along a rute,
I thought I would reinstall it and race the AI.
But the AI dont want to Race even in Death Race.
Ive had Gas Guzzlers Extreme on my wishlist for some time
and by your recommendation I guess I'll give it a go.
Though I'll miss the mowing of pedestrians.
Thanks for your input.
Are you referring to Reincarnation, Max Damage or the "old ones" ?
The AI in Reincarnation and Max Damage as far as gameplay are identical.
I have a lot of time in both versions in 2 accounts and have seen no discernable difference.
There is no problem in either game ( C:R or M:D) if it is played correctly and as intended.
They are like a$$holes.Everybody has one.
And they all stink.
The "old ones" are not the same game. Not at all.
Comparison is therefore not "apples to apples".
That isn't too hard to understand, is it?
Then you can take your argument to the forums that deal with the first games, @Humerous Chimp.
This is not those games. This is Max Damage, not the 1997 version or 1998 version. It isn't Carmageddon 2- Carpocalypse Now.
Those original games are completely different in every way possible.
Like I said before:
IT ISN'T "APPLES TO APPLES".
There is no comparison.
Play the ones you like the way you like.
WTF ever.
It's almost as pointless as this continuing banter about this game that has been in full release for 17 months.
Relevant to what?
This game is what it is. It is MAX DAMAGE. Nothing else.
There will be no updates, no changes by the devs.
Play it he way it is or mod it to your liking.
To ♥♥♥♥♥ about the way this game is after all this time is just ridiculous, really.
I am not defending anything.
I am merely stating the fact that this game plays the way it plays.
I could not care less how others play this game.
But realize this:
THIS GAME IS FINISHED.
DONE.
OVER.
I have done everything I wanted to do in this game ( and Carmageddon-Reincarnatiion)
It's a done deal.
The devs walked away from this game upon release. They didn't even bother to fix/patch the audio issues this game has had from day 1, or any of the other (rather small) issues this game was known to have, @HumerousChimp. The damage had been done with the lackluster release of Reincarnation*. Max Damage never had a chance, really.
Online / Multiplayer was never correctly implemented (Drop-in servers, etc) so this game was D.O.A. in online, career had a loss of replayability for most so here we are, 17 months later.
I did at one time defend this game. I was guilty of fanboy blindness when it came to Reincarnation (which in my opinion is still the better version of this game) and made a few enemies along the way due to my sometimes caustic responses to various players whining about the things they felt were wrong with Reincarnation and this version.
Be all that as it may, time has passed and I have accepted the fact that everyone has a right to their opinion and can feel however they feel about this or any other game.
I tend to base my opinions on facts and the fact is some opinions are dead wrong, but you cannot make anyone accept your opinion or point of view if they aren't willing to re-examine the reasoning behind their opinions. To try to help players that want what they cannot have in this game is a waste of time for that reason.
All I was trying to do here is explain that there is a right way and a wrong way to play any Carmageddon game. They are all slightly different, but the gist of these games in similar.
Mission based races in C-2 for instance.
I also feel the fact that I played all of them since the release of the DOS version in 1997 and succesfully completed all of the Carma series of games (without cheating, hacking into files, etc) means I do know a fair bit about all of them.
If a player doesn't like the way this game works, they should simply play another game, as without using mods, hacking various files, etc, this game is going to remain exactly as it is now.
Like it or not, it is what it is.
Put a fork in it.
This one is done.
I hope you and you family are doing well, and I am happy to know you are still in the cyber Steam world , gaming and having fun !
Kind regards,
~👽H€L¡XX~
* Reincarnation was patched after the May 2015 release and most all of the (rather small) issues were fixed, optimization was improved and most everyone was happy with it after late August of 2015.
Even now there are bugged achievements, so they will remain broken for eternity I suppose.

Gas Guzzler Extreme /Gold edition is on sale at a super cheap price.
This game also provides servers with bots and with various modes and maps for online, which is something that should have been done to kickstart or maybe save multiplayer in this game.
Anyway, I highly recommend Gas Guzzlers Extreme , it is a blast and right now it is a great deal pricewise for anyone that like car racing and killng in the same game......
I'll satisfy my racing needs with an
other game than Carmageddon :)
