What is the Gold Egg for?

Has anyone found a usage for the fancy egg treasure thing?

Put simply...the egg has no purpose at all. Unless you count the ability to make you kick yourself for wasting gold on it. The thing was a useless trinket in the gamebook and the meaningless nature of its existence seems to have carried over into the modern-day incarnation of Sorcery.
