Battlerite

Battlerite

Why Battlerite is Dead, And Why it's OK
Battlerite is dead.

First off, what does that mean exactly? Well, let's first talk about game releases and peak online times. Typically a multiplayer game of this scale has it's peak of players within the first week of it's release, which is incredibly common and not exactly a "shocker". However, when does a game die? This definition can be stretched and squished to fit any one person's agenda, but I believe most of us can agree that a game can be considered "successful" if it continues to retain at least some kind of relative percentage of it's all time peak concurrent players.

So, what other examples can be shown of this statistic adding up? Let's look at a couple games on Steam Charts that are also multiplayer, competitive, team-based games that I believe everyone can agree are successful (even if you don't like said game).

Team Fortress 2 - 2020 Concurrent: ~70,000 - All Time Concurrent: ~117,000
Concurrency ~60%

Rocket League - 2020 Concurrent: ~65,000 - All Time Concurrent: ~119,000
Concurrency ~55%

Counter-Strike - 2020 Concurrent: ~27,000 - All Time Concurrent: ~65,000
Concurrency ~42%

Paladins - 2020 Concurrent: ~23,000 - All time Concurrent: ~60,000
Concurrency ~38%

Now finally, let us look at Battlerite and Battlerite Royale

Battlerite - 2020 Concurrent: ~1,100 - All Time Concurrent: ~45,000
Concurrency ~3%

Battlerite Royale - 2020 Concurrent: ~200 - All Time Concurrent: ~10,000
Concurrency Less Than 2%

All information was taken directly from SteamCharts, and can be found yourself if you think these numbers are false or inaccurate. Truth be told, I was going to use this next section to show examples of other multiplayer, competitive, team-based games that have similar concurrency to Battlerite now that are still considered alive and well, but there simply isn't any. No game of this category has ever had a falling out this hard in history. The closest I could even find was some of the old call of duty games with around 10-15% concurrency, but even then that is 5 or 6 times higher than Battlerite and are several, SEVERAL years older.

And all things considered, that is OK! Games die, nothing lasts forever, and trying to force it to last will only make it worse. I am personally very fond of this game, and always will be. I played hundreds of hours across multiple accounts, and have tons of fantastic memories playing rounds with my friends and climbing the ranks with even the most estranged of characters. But, that's the point, they were good memories. There's nothing wrong with still playing it to this day, but just understand that the game is the way it is. Constantly posting "revive the game!!!" and "game not dead just sleeping" is just beating a dead horse, and let me say that horse is mincemeat by now.

Battlerite was great, so let it rest in peace.

And what is the purpose of this post? Is it other people's approval of your opinion that you seek? This isn't going to make SLS shut the servers down, if that's what you're going for.

I mean calling this an opinion while there is blatant and obvious evidence is quite alarming, did you even read the post at all?

Edit: Nevermind, you literally reviewed the game in Early Access and have barely played since 2018, and have your games/hours on private.

Literally says and I quote "There's nothing wrong with still playing it to this day, but just understand that the game is the way it is." No where did I say the servers need to be shut down, nowhere did I attack anyone else's viewpoint, and nowhere did I even begin to pander for approval.

So.. what now?

I asked what the point of this post is, which you still haven't answered.

To bring obvious statistical information to a topic that is incredibly wishy-washy and has no narrative to begin with.

And what makes you think this is valuable for others to see?

What is the value in forcing the idea that this game is "so alive and well"? If anything fooling someone into thinking they are entering into a wonderful gaming experience by playing Battlerite in 2020 in itself is an injustice, so for someone to know this information before succumbing to the delusion is inherently valuable.

I'm not saying that there is any value in either. The whole discussion just seems pointless, since the concurrent player count is evident to anyone considering buying or installing the game.

I guess I can concede to that idea, I myself just have not seen anything very concrete in the discussions board or on Discord as to why this game is truly dead and not just a hoax. I hope that maybe if more people recognize the fact that this is the single largest nosedive in gaming history for this category that maybe, just maybe future users of this platform will take precautions to prevent something like this from happening again. Sure it could all be futile, but in the end isn't playing games in the first place a conversation topic of "futile endeavor".

It's about as dead as BLC was for years, no surprises really.

Edit: BLC is Bloodline Champions, the first game.

I suppose the major difference between BLC and Battlerite is that BLC never had the initial exposure Battlerite had, so there was a theory that its failure was due to bad marketing. My personal opinion is that there just isn't a large market for tactical, competitive games in general, and MOBAs already hold the majority share. I could go into my personal analysis further, but I don't think anyone cares enough so that's that.

The worst thing is that there is no actual alternative even relatively close to BR. All other games with big names are PvE focused with endless grind and painfully slow PvP mode which people are not even playing much. since its not properly developed...

i agree with Alxndr
i see a market here since we all love this game for a reason there MUST be a niche for people like us who are dedicated and willing to get addicted to a fun arena pvp brawler

and one second thought
how ever dead a game is (BR is one of them) telling people its dead definitely doesnt help revive it. Magickarp or some big youtuber talked about how mad he was that people who started to call the game dead way before the curve finally dropped condemned it.
