Unless the point was not completely clear:
There is no reason to go further in punishment than the crime constitutes.
Dealing in absolute punishments is just plain unfair. In a game as it is in real life.
You might as well say:
"Life in Prison without parole for a thief, so he learns not to steal"
This is way better than permabans, my brother is a very toxic League of Legends player, he has 4 or 5 permabans and he keeps being toxic anyways, in fact, I think it got worse over time.
Before League of Legends used to drop the ban hammer on toxic players, they used to give them chat restrictions, which actually helped to keep my brother in check a lot better.
Let me tell you, toxic people don't want to be toxic. They just want to play the game, permabanning them, thus removing all their progress and lettnig them start over along with all the noobs actually has a negative effect on them, making them even more toxic.
Everyone who hurt their feelings deserves eternally being locked out of any game.
-i got 3 perma bann league accounts, havent played league since because i hate games that favor little kids with mothers credit card.-
I just stand to believe that a permaban is too much for however much toxicity, when there are better ways to handle them.
This is being toxic. You just choose to do it on forums.
Being 'part of human psychology' isn't an excuse at all. Try to talk that way to strangers on the street, you will be so much 'banned' you will have to run away :)
But seriously: No, toxicity is not okay at all, don't look for excuses but improve it. A basic level of politness is mandatory for any civilised conversation or group activity. Don't get me wrong, I don't say you should talk like a nun, I throw around quite a lot of vulgarities too in online games. But I never flame strangers for being bad or didn't do what I wanted or whatever in a video game. And, somehow, I never ever had even a warning about my toxicity. What a coincidence.
Actually, we could just get rid of any toxicity filter as it is, but people can't behave. Think about old games like early days of WoW or Quake Arena and such, things were okay without a ban system. When somebody crossed the line the community itself votekicked them from servers and guilds. But the current gamer generation (let's call them 'LoL generation' :) ) is so toxic that a pub full of wasted West Ham supporters is a pretty polite place compared to an online match. Not just profanity but hardcore hate speech, racism and such.
Seriously, guys, what's wrong with you??
I don't think Battlerite has a toxic community at all. But I read it on reddit that since f2p launch toxicity skyrocketed, so I understand SLS wants to stop this before we turn into another LoL, OW or CS:GO.
But I agree with you in one thing, it shouldn't be a perm ban right away. Not even a temp ban and defo not a chat ban. It should be a warning at first that you are more toxic than accepted so hold yourself back or next time you will be banned. This way nobody can say they're suprised what just happened.
And again: I think we shouldn't even have a system for that. But then, you guys should pick up some basic level of politness somehow...
Murder is a part of human psychology, what's your point?
Toxic chat can be muted.
It does not directly influence gameplay or performance unless they also tilt or start griefing or you get tilted over them, which you shouldnt, cause you should mute them.
And people still want permabans for it.
I dunno how its handled right now, but I seriously do believe that an instant perma ban or even just an account suspension is a bit much for chatting. Especially since you can mute them.
I just think their chat should be restricted until they receive a permanent chat ban.
Only in, no out.
And then replace whatever they write with positive messages.
I think that hurts them more than being unable to play.
They'll always find other games or create new accounts.
