Do you mean something changed between two relatively recent sessions, or that you hadn't played for a while and when you started playing again you had this issue?
I'm not too familiar with it, but maybe there's a problem with how the controller settings for Steam Input are set?
I did verify and reinstall, didn't do anything.
Yeah, i play it on and off, but usually only a couple days in between sessions.
since it's been a little while since it's started, i can't say for certain.
i don't know. there is a good chance it happened after the overlay update steam had recently, but i don't know how likely that could be the case.
Oh, also, did/can you test if this happen on other steam games?
Since this appear to be a problem with the game itself, the only thing i can think of that might be causing this is mods.
Do you have any installed?
Alternatively, while i don't see how it could fix your issue, have you tried using a beta branch, like the OpenGL one? (Library -> Right-click on game -> Properties -> Betas)
maybe something on a global file is corrupted? like something that's being read by the game independent from the profile you're playing on or something. which could explain why it's any controller but only this steam version and not from epic.
The file would be also backed up to the cloud to reinstalling won't have any effect.
That's the only logical conclusion i have at this point.
You could try moving them to a different folder temporarily, but you might need to deactivate Steam Cloud for Celeste to prevent it from restoring the files when launching the game.
Thank you so much!
So it turns out that the problem was in Celeste>saves>settings.celeste. deleting it solved it, or rather returning that file brought the problem back.
I had thought about the settings file several times, but i had assumed that controller settings didn't allow to change stick movement, and especially with such a small angle, so i didn't mention it because i thought it couldn't be the issue, but apparently you can change movement bindings on controller relatively freely.
I think the exact cause was probably that it's possible to set movement bindings for dashes only, and some stick direction was set to the wrong direction for dashes only movement.
To have a small region that causes misdirections, i'm guessing the way controller angles work probably does something weird like separating an up-left input into up and left, but possibly in a different order depending on which direction the angle is closest to? I could be completely wrong, i have no idea how it actually works.
