Lighting not working in Chapter 5
I have just reached the mirror temple and have reached the area with mirror Theo. However, the level is almost completely dark. When I see videos on youtube, Madeline is supposed to have a glow around her during this section, but I don't have it. This makes the level practically impossible to play. How do I fix this?

Hey, have you tried save+quit and relaunching the app? I've never heard of this happening. Another option would be to give the opengl branch a try and see if it solves the problem for you (in steam right click Celeste -> Properties -> Betas -> Select "opengl" from the dropdown). It's the same game, just uses opengl rendering and a different engine (FNA) instead of directx and XNA.

Thanks! I tried saving and quitting but it seems persistent. I'm using the opengl beta actually, but I set it back to normal and it still doesn't work. Maybe it's due to some gameplay element that I haven't interacted with yet?

Can you share a screenshot of the game in Chapter 5?

The rooms do get brighter if you talk to Theo while he's stuck in the crystal, but the game should always put a light around Madeline regardless of that.
Never mind, I tried what you said again and it worked! Thanks so much! I don't know what went wrong with it. Really enjoying the game by the way.

I have the same problem, but save+quitting and putting it in opengl hasn't worked for me :(

I just got very dark rooms in chapter 5, mirror temple.
Couldn't see the door the key had to go in.
Couldn't see Theo in the mirror.
Was already in openGL "beta".
Save and quit didn't help.

went beck to "none" for beta.
lighting was fine.

back to opengl again.
too dark again :C

I'm running the game in opengl so I can use my PS4 controller. The lighting in chapter 5 does not work in opengl but has worked with no beta option but that is sacrificing the PS4 Controller for the lighting and I cannot use keyboard controls with platformers like these.

I'm having the same problem. I was advancing through the level and struggling a lot, until I got the feel of "this is just not right"... went to youtube and discovered in fact that everything wasn't meant to be completely dark.

I'm already using OpenGL (if I don't, game doesn't start for me and freezes my computer), and I have every driver updated.
I've tried to save+quit (doesn't work), and also restarting chapter (doesn't work).

My specs -I don't know if this helps, but nevermind-:
Ryzen 7 2700x
Gigabyte rx580
Viper Patriot 16 ram 3200
MSI x470 Pro Carbon

Ninja edit: I saw another thread where a user said that opening the game in steam big picture solved it. I've tried it and...
yeah, it worked. Don't ask me how or why, but prob solved.
