The developers for some reason had the bright idea of making "c" the button you press to start, not Enter, not Esc, not Spacebar. This is made more frustrating by the fact that if you plug in a controller it clearly shows the green "A" button signifying what you have to press, thus the devs were lazy and gave very little thought into PC users navigating the interface, and simply swapped the inputs to the keyboard equivalents.

they do show a c in the bottom right, but it looks like a copyright symbol, or at least thats what I thought when I first played

Also no visible indication that you have to press Alt-F4 to exit.

It's also not recognizing my controller now, even though I already beat the game with the same controller. Can I roll back the update?

Um, what? There's a button in the main menu marked "quit".

Have you tried disabling or enabling Steam Input in Library->Right-click on Celeste->Properties->Controller?
