B-sides are disappointing music-wise
Unlike the rest of the game B-sides were not given adaptive music. Found myself constantly taking off my headphones to concentrate because I got sick of listening to the same song over and over. Chapter 6 was especially disappointing as I loved how plot-focused this chapter was, but no new song for the boss "fight" was disappointing.

The game is still a perfect 10, just disappointed that the only thought they put into B-sides was making harder levels using the same mechanics instead of the same quality they applied to the rest of the game.

On that note it's a small nitpick, but on Chapter 2 B-side it would have been cool if they reimplemented the mirror and then you had to backtrack by going through Dream blocks (now activated) in order to reach the end followed by a chase. The temple (Chapter 5) stayed true to the original because you had to find the keys.

ok, let's make all 7 guest artists make multiple music layers and dynamic progression for bonus levels that dont have story content

Your sarcasm is funny, no need to take this personally. It's art and all art is subject to constructive criticism.

Dude the B side tracks are all straight bops. This opinion is heresy.

I never said the tracks themselves are bad, just didn't like their presentation. :steamsad:

My favourite remix is Chapter 5 B/C-Side. YA LIKE JAZZ?!?!

Nah, I totally felt this when I did 7B golden. As for the plot and mechanics, there really didn't need to be any more than there was, it's exactly what it's meant to be: harder content of the same chapter.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I feel the music progressing with the level wouldn't have worked at all on the B-sides. I can't really put it into words well, but it just wouldn't fit. Like, they're B-sides, not second A-sides. It's bonus material for whoever wasn't yet satisfied gameplay-wise, so it's kind of whimsical and doesn't try to go for the same tension curve as the main story, and having looping music goes with that. Take 6-B; yes, it's dramatic music but it doesn't signify Madeline facing her dark side but it signifies you facing a hard-as-balls challenge inspired by something you played before. Having the music ramp up the closer you get to Badeline (who in the B-side is just reduced to a mere gameplay element) just doesn't fit that.

It's kind of like a steak dinner; you gotta have something like potatoes or vegetables as a side. Having the B-sides work just like the A-sides but just done again by different people would be like having a medium rare steak with several well-done steaks as a side. It just doesn't work well together.

In the case of a literal B-side, the musician doesn't have to worry about whether the songs will do well on the charts, so they can be a little more experimental, a little less by-the-books and put a bit more of themselves in it. You're right Celeste's B-sides are not the same quality as the main game. It's, in a way, better because there are fewer constraints: the level designer can fully explore concepts without having to worry about the story getting in the way. The musicians can just focus on making awesome and highly personal background tracks without having to worry about the cliches story-matched music almost inevitably forces on a composer.
