Doing the former allows you to climb up walls without using up any stamina (assuming you're not holding the grab button while jumping).
i see, but you often have to jump from wall to wall so you kind of have to hold the directional buttons down? any tips?
do i just have to like immediately let go once i get there? basically just being really really quick? i was like trying to do a zigzag and instead just kept falling down, never felt like i was stable on a wall even for a bit. i thought i was doing it fast too

ok tankxxxx. i''ll try to get used to it. the only platformer/MV i played have been HK and aeterna noctis and those two feel much more similar to each other than celeste.
For jumping between two walls if you're out of stamina, you can also just hold away from the wall you're currently on after jumping, you don't have to hold neutral. I'm not sure what you mean about being stable on a wall, but if you're falling down it's probably because you're holding the opposite direction that you're moving.
