stuck on chapter 9 .....
i've been stuck on this one screen in chapter nine for way too long. made it this far without assist mode and i don't want to turn it on now :steamsad:
it's the section where you have to bounce the pufferfish onto a moving platform with a spring and then continue jumping through spikes/ice. i can't get the pufferfish to launch me through the gap in the spikes, it consistently pushes me into them instead and i've watched all of the walkthroughs i could find on youtube. help??!

Difficult to tell because there is more than one area that has crystals, pufferfish, springs and moving platforms at the same time. I am guessing you mean 12:07 in this video:

(If not state the timestamp)

That section is very precise overall. Generally there is one thing that can screw you over. If you get sent too far by the pufferfish explod9ing it's because you are holding right as the pufferfish explodes. This mechanic is hidden and applies to bumpers too, and is the worst design choice ever, as it makes these mechanics feel even more inconsistent. Basically because you are holding right the game is sending you farther right, if you are neutral as it explodes, or are holding the opposite direction it won't send you as far, here's a quick demonstration:

Sorry about the choppy framerate I am running a VM in the background.

yes, that's the section i was stuck on. thanks so much for the demonstration, it makes so much more sense now!! i am not much of a gamer so a lot of the mechanics aren't as intuitive to me as they might be to someone who has played a lot more than i have. but your explanation has helped me a lot to figure out what was actually going wrong! i still haven't completed that bit but the issue now is my skills hahahah. thanks so much!

No problem! And don't be so harsh on yourself, like I said I think this mechanic is poorly implemented as the game doesn't actually give you any indication it exists! So it is kind of a player issue, but if the game told you it was there you would be able to correct yourself much better!

I ran into the same problem on so many levels especially the first time I did 6B and 8B, but eventually I started to realise what was going wrong.

It's a long way to the top (pun not intended), but you'll get there!

I know I'm 3 years late to this thread but thank you! I didn't realise I could catch the moving platform and jump to the exit in the room after the one mentioned in the post. You actually allowed me to get to the next checkpoint without keeping the game running for another 10 hours :sob:. Very helpful!
