Remember assist mode if you need it. There isn't a penalty to using it, and you can even do minor stuff like slowing the game by 20% or so to make things a little easier.
You will hardly ever need assist mode.
The game will tempt you a few times but I've never *really* needed it. And the only video guide I needed was the 'how the F* do I do that' strawberries and the Crystal hearts. Most Strawberries I can get on a second playthrough checking for secrets. Anything you legit scratch your head trying to find I suggest a video.
The game doesn't 'laugh' at you per say (at least in the sense of Dark souls and it's 'you died' screen) but you will get a mark on your file saying you used it...
And practice maneuvering with the earlier parts of the level.
Otherwise Chapter 8 will kick your butt XD
As for now that you're past them I'd say at least give each level B-Side a try if you have it unlocked. Personally I loved Ch. 2's mechanics so much it was the first B-Side I tried and inspired me to go through all of them. (Which by the time of Ch. 8B I regret that decision)
The C-Sides are only for the truly masochistic though. The usual level design means no screen will have more than a few hard manuevers at most before you complete it; the C-Sides are huge chains of the hardest tricks in the game. First instance Ch. 1C is only 3 screens long but will give you nightmares just looking at it.
Most of the time the game is like 'here's your tools, now get from point A to B'
Even on Ch 1's B side, the game wastes no time going 'great shot kid, now don't get cocky'
These screens from what I've seen are legitimate puzzles. Where the main game is for the most part, platforming shinanigans.
I'm personally just gonna go for getting all the crystal hearts, strawberries and unlocking the B sides. I'm nowhere near proficiant enough at the game for C sides from what I've heard of it.
This game looks really good and has a really (for me) relatable setting but the difficulty ist just to high :(
*sigh* I used to be really good at platformers ...... ^^
