Is 5C really hard or am I really bad?
After going through all of the A- and B-sides in expected time, I'm really struggling with the last screen of 5C. It feels like with every jump I'm rolling dice. I've spent ~15-20h in ~10 months on it and this level probably sets a record death count for me.

It could also be that I've bound 'up' and 'jump' to the same button because I'm on a keyboard.

P.S.: Playing Hollow Knight in between playing Celeste is a bad idea. Your dash muscle memory will completely evaporate due to difference between jumping key bindings.

Also it's a real shame because I haven't been able to play Chapter 9 because quitting the level would mean losing the progress I've made by getting through the first few screens.

5C, 7C, and 8C all have very difficult last rooms and I would say are much harder than the rest of the C sides. I sill don't think the level took me over an hour or so though, I'd maybe try to practice doing wall bounces somewhere else until you feel more confident with them. I'm also not sure if that bind would be a problem for getting the bounces.

In terms of leaving the level and having to get back, the first two rooms are much easier so I don't think you'll have too much trouble trying to do them a second time.

Couldn't you bind jump to the same key in both games?

ill be blunt with you 20 hours is a crazy amount for a c side but its not about how much you play because the more you play the more you die the more you learn and the better you get so keep at it if you enjoy it
also unbined up and jump its impossible to play high level gameplay like farewell or the c sides with up and jump bound together theres actions that require one and not the other

Update: Finished 5C with 1856 deaths, about equal to the sum of my 1C-4C deaths.
(To be honest, I probably vastly overestimated the hour count)

Change your bindings. Having jump and up on the same key will make it impossible to do some of the jumps that you need to on some C sides and Farewell.

I've had a lot more deaths on 5C than 7C (1600 vs 500), can't say it's more difficult, but extremely annoying.

5C?
The first room is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ torture.
It's 3 perfectly timed GARBAGE wall jumps in perfect positions.

I don't get why everyone complains about the third level, it's really hard, yes, but the first level is complete garbage.
