For what it's worth, I didn't use Assist mode at all when completing the content for that reason- I wanted to do it, and overcome that challenge, and so I did. Achievements as a number or unlock? Completely irrelevant to me.
I understand that this request for appreciating the game over the achievements to fall on deaf ears, obviously we are opposed in our thinking, as made clear by the statement of heartbreaking.. still I chime in hoping for reason to prevail. I say this having nearly fully completed the game without assist mode, c-sides included/golden berries excluded, that I am not bothered by the devs decision, and it doesn't bother me that people who couldn't handle the challenge were still able to see the endgame content.
For me the associated achievements are quite tangential to what is most important; enjoying the game and getting as far as you are willing to push yourself. So you can see why a badge signifying what I have done to display on my profile for the world has far less value than simply completing the challenge that the achievement was rewarded for.
Doing that math it should be clear that while I would also personally encourage the more challenging route, no matter what I put more emphasis, stock and appreciation towards PLAYING the game as opposed to thinking that a small token, displayed outside of the game, indicating specific accomplishments mattered in any tangible way, its so below meaningless in the long run. I know the math here doesn't quite equate, but while I too prefer the Harder difficulty compared to Easy difficulty in a game, I still value someones experience playing Easy compared to caring about their Achievements.
IHNN put it pretty well, no one is cheating you by cheesing these achievements, they are only cheating themselves out of a rewarding challenge.
maybe if it really feels like you are cheated because other people can utilize a handicap to get the achievements, try to accept the devs decision and make sure to not display any achievements from this game on your profile because its so questionable if they are legit?
I m sorry if I came off as rude or demanding, It's just awkward, I would think for both of us, to empathize with each other and think of the best solution moving forward knowing that the dev has made up their mind
Once again, I know I should just enjoy the process but I can't help but still feel "cheated" for not knowing people can get them effortless before I started getting these achievements. It felt GREAT when I got them, but now they feel kinda "meh"
Being "inclusive" is great 95% of the time but when I think of achievements or awards I still think they lose their purpose. If you grant it to everyone, you`re basically giving it to no one...
It's like giving a oscar of best movie to every movie.
I believe it matters when it's part of a community with global achievement rates. I think I wouldn't be so sad if I knew it before I started playing. I would be aware of how things worked.
As for the C-sides, I may continue in the future, I'm just not in the mood at the moment. A great part of my enthusiasm of doing these harder contents came from the possibility of earning a hard-to-get achievement. Discovering people get them with little effort, after I invested so much effort, felt quite unpleasant and took my enthusiasm. I was REALLY happy when I finished all the B-sides.
Indeed, without assists I believe the hard ones would be around 1 or 2%.
Can you specify other legit games with cheesable achievements? I want to be amazed.
Or the impossible-until-not-too-long-ago achievement from Stanley that lots of people had ahead of time.
You didn't lie, I'm quite amazed!
And no. Im not showing you how. We don't need more cheaters in online games.
