Dash Controls
Why are the dash controls so awkward. Seems like every 2 or 3 deaths I'll die because the deadzone for directional dashes is so wide I'll shoot off at a vertical angle when I'm just trying to dash left. Not fun at all trying to get some of the berries in the haunted hotel

I just started playing the game and was getting pissed off because the dash wasn't working correctly, so I searched for dash problems.

I also had that problem when I started, but I got it less and less the more I played. You really just have to get used to the controls, and it won’t happen.

I guess that's also harder depending on the controller you use.
I play with the ps4 controller and hell it sucks balls. Half the time I dash in a random direction.
But I noticed that issue with other games, too. Maybe my brain is wired wrong.
This game is really hard. I had 352 death in the hotel, without picking up any berries so that's that :D
fml.

I am using a third party controller and i am not even using D-Pad so I guess I picked the right controller lol

I've heard numerous complaints about it, despite being a keyboard player myself. Though many of the most skilled players in the community use controllers but always use the d-pad, it's just more consistent. I'd suggest using keyboard though.

A proper 16bit analog stick fixes this. Don't use PS4 controllers.

I'm fine using a PS4 Controler with stick. Most of my deathes are caused by myself, not by the controller itself. You just need to learn how to use your input device properly.

I'd say 1/3 of my deaths are caused by diagonal dashes registering as vertical or sideways or vice versa. The angle seems to be very tiny on Xbox One controller. Anyway, I managed to do 7B today, so it's still playable, even though this gets infuriating at times.

I did use the analog sticks on the ps4 controller for the feathers at first, cause it felt easier to do.
But rest of the game I used the dpad on that controller and the issue I do have is that the dpad is one single plastic part that has 4 switches underneath. So if you are in a stressed situation where you press/grip harder it's pretty easy to tilt the dpad buttons in a way that you accidentally dash in a completely different direction. That is very frustrating. In the end I was able to beat the a sides. But I will definitely not play the b sides or c sides or do any berries etc. I would just get extremely mad :D Already took me > 2000 deaths to just reach the summit. I'm done.

I'm happy that I reached the summit. I did not expect to actually get that far in the game in the first place. But I am damn sure that I did not get any better in the game since I started it. I learned some of the mechanics but I was never able to reproduce anything. I did repeat most screens so often that just by chance I had to push the right buttons at the right time at least once :D

I will recommend that game to people who either have the nerves to fight through this or just the skills to mash numerous buttons accurately within a short time, which I simply can't.

Get one of those controllers with the 8 notches around the edge of the hole, or cut those notches into your existing controller's shell. Or get one of those things that makes the joystick taller, so you have more precise control over it.
I have this problem too. I just ignored it and eventually got a better feel for it, but I still occasionally dash the wrong direction.
Although, an indicator of what direction I'm going to dash would be nice. Wouldn't fix everything, but it'd be nice.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, but maybe this would change the "feel" of the game as well.

I recommend switching to keyboard. It's much better for precision platformers.

There are definite issues with the Xbox 360 D pad. I was 100% sure I was pressing exactly left or right, and half the time I would still dash diagonally. Surprisingly, the analog stick is much better than the D pad.
