Chapter 9 is so hard it's stupid
I really enjoyed this game up until this point. I had some frustrated moments in the core but I still enjoyed it. This chapter though is unbelievable. I really liked that the B-side and C-side levels were optional challenges and weren't required for some special ending. I did a few of them and for the most part enjoyed it but after a while I started to feel like I would begin losing my enjoyment of the game if I continued to try and do them. Chapter 9 is the manifestation of that feeling. I'v seen some people say some of chapter's rooms are on par with C-side challenges and that just feels wrong to me. It makes me pissed at the developers that when they released the game they had the mentality of the game being challenging but forgiving, and having the absurd challenges as optional content that didn't effect the main story, only to go back on that later and lock the true ending behind one of the most difficult challenges in the game. It almost feels like they broke a promise.

I know assist mode exists just don't go there.

It is not the true ending as much as another chapter.
The diffuculty is the point.
-----------------------
Before Chapter 9 came out, i was preaty much done with Celeste .
i didn't finish any of the B Sides nor did i complete Chapter 8.
than i completed Chapter 8 to see chapter 9 , and a learned that it is considered harder than all B and C sides.
so i did those first , which at first was very hard .and each took even hours .
This game is about persistence.
not once did i reach a point that i was ready to give up.
that this room is immposible to me and i will never do it,
and than i eventually did.
this feeling - is exactly what this game aim for with these levels.

Core imo is more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it just feels way more mechanically stiff and annoying, especially the B side. 9 gets really creative and embodies the best of Celeste imo, with how the level design teaches you the 'gimmicks' of the chapter and then progressively builds on it in clever ways. There are a few screens that I think are straight up ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but most of them have been interesting and fun challenges.

This is coming from a dude who liked Path of Pain in Hollow Knight though, which apparently most people hated, so whatever, guess I have odd taste and a desire for pain.

I did path of pain too. I also enjoyed it and it was a hell of a lot easier than half of the bs chapter 9 throws at you. its taken me at least twice as many attempts to get past single rooms in chapter 9 than it took me to do the entirety of path of pain. A lot of the time in celeste I feel like I'm executing a trick in exactly the same way I did before, or even better, yet it seemingly falls short for no discernible reason. There's an extremely frustrating inconsistency in the way momentum carries you in celeste that's incredibly apparent in rooms where the game expects you to do a large sequence of jumps when moving platforms are involved. The tiniest mistiming compounds on itself until you reach the last jump and just can't make it because you were a fraction of a millisecond off 10 jumps ago and you had no way of knowing where or what you messed up. After a certain point it stops feeling like I'm improving and starts to feel like it's just pure luck, and it completely kills any sense of accomplishment past that point.
