I can't get pink clouds right no matter what I try

I'm stuck in ch 4 where you need to drop down on to this pink cloud while being pounded by fast winds. I saw somebody on youtube able to bounce off the cloud to grab the moving platform. But for me, no matter what I do, I can;t seem to bounce off the cloud properly. I'm trying different button presses....nothing is working. This cloud bounce just seems like a very bad mechanic that needs to give you more time to activate correctly.

I feel like I've gotten 1000 deaths just on this one screen alone lol.

Ok, I got past it, but I felt like it was more to luck than anything.

Experiment doing a small delay between your jump off the cloud and the moment the cloud reaches the peak of its movement.

What he said pretty much. The higher the cloud is when you jump the higher you will go. To get max bounce you need to jump at, or just after, the cloud reaches its max height. This is usually a little bit _later_ than many people find to be intuitive.

I would reccomend taking a few minutes at the next blue cloud you find and just figure out the "perfect bounce" timing. Especially if you want to go to the B sides at some point, that is an important skill. As the others have said, the timing is a little unusual, it is as the cloud is moving upwards. Think of it like the first level, where you could launch yourself up by grabbing an object moving up and jumping as it is moving up.

Whoa... I had been stuck on pink clouds in the b side (in the level where you suddenly really really need to know how pink clouds work), and just reading this comment made everything click. Thanks!

I can't believe I had played this long and didn't even notice how high I could really jump with these.
