How to get the strawberries to follow you?

I understand that you need six strawberries to follow you for the 1-UP achievement, but if I touch them I just collect them. Anyone know how to get them to follow you but not collect them?

Someone else asked the same question. The short answer is to stop being on the ground.

The long answer is that Strawberries are "caught" after 7 frames or so of being in contact with terra-firma. So if you limit your exposure to the ground by bunnyhopping, grabbing walls instinctually, and doing a lot of wasteful dashes, it's not so tough.

If you want to let the strawberry to follow you. You should not stand on the land. All you can do is to hold the wall or dash.
