They sure are, i kinda hoped there was a bit more than just tons of new levels (that i am not sure if i will even play, considering how i raged at some parts in the late game).
A hidden ending/character/special-move maybe would have motivated me to torture myself with the B-Sides/C-Sides.
On a more serious note, no, there's just more gameplay to unlock, so if that's not your thing, then no reason to go for it.
Technically there are some mechanics that you don't know about yet, but they're unlocked from the start.
I found it satisfying to finally complete levels after hundreds of deaths, but if you don't have the same feeling then maybe you really shouldn't try b and c.
You don't need all strawberries to unlock c-sides. Just beat 8b.
You know how 2b teaches you you can jump out of space jam? Well there's more tech taught to you in b/c sides (especially in 7b and 8c), it's not really unlocked by playing them as you can already do them if you find them by yourself, but still it feels pretty nice.
