Can we talk about 5-C
I think this one might have finally broken me. For those of you who got through, how many hours did this take? Like, I think this single room might end up costing me more lives than all of 7-B combined.

OK I finally finished off the C-Sides today woot!. I know what you mean about being sort of sad that it is over now... I think we should change the name of this thread to "Can we talk about 7-C" tho haha, that third screen gave me the most trouble of any in the game.

Yeah sadly I had no fun at all doing golden strawbs / the rest of the stuff :(
I might get the 1UP for that final achievement but thats it for me sadly. I hope the level editor will end up happening cus that sounds spicy

2B is super fun to speedrun for the golden strawberry, between the dream blocks and the way the levels connect together, you can keep nice flow for the entire run. Also, I recommend trying the dashless challenge for chapter 1 that gives a secret 200th strawberry. It's incredibly hard but also proportionally satisfying cuz it forces you to think out of the box and even learn new moves like neutral wall jump/climbing that you never use elsewhere in the game!

Is infinite wall jumping intended? I remember with one of Matt Thorson's older games, Jumper 2, the base version had infinite wall jumping that was removed in the updated level editor. Feels weird if that came back, although Celeste is built pretty differently.

I was able to get all the way to the room with the little house on the right without this, but I'm pretty sure that is intended, since stuff like the crystal heart in ch2 exists.
That being said I have no idea whats past that room with the little house, that one was just too sad and frustrating
5-C was pretty tough not gonna lie but definitely not enough to sway me away from the rest of the C levels, besides that's 7-C and 8-C's jobs

Yeah it has to be intentional, I don't think you can clear the very last room of chapter 1 dashless without using it. Not enough endurance. But it's very hard to pull off, and so unintuitive at first in terms of inputs that it's not something you could use unless you are actively trying to. I had to look up this video first to get the hang of it.

I like that until the very end, the game keeps giving you new toys to master. I can imagine an extra "advanced climbing dojo" level where you would have to climb a vertical surface by combining neutral wall-jumps and dash wall-jumps, how epic would that be!

Only 6C golden strawberry left to grab for me and then the long wait for the level editor begins, I'm gonna miss this game. Funny how we get used to the struggle!

is b 7 really that hard? i haven't gotten there yet so that's why i'm asking.
In my experience, it was the biggest difficulty spike because at the end of it, a spoilery thing happens, which changes a lot of things and makes em way harder and maybe unintuitive at first. After you get over that spoilery thing the rest of it isn't very hard at all
i played 7b and i can say that it was the most fun b-side i played and the whole dash kick thing was alot of fun and actually pretty easy for me.

Can kinda relate to this. 7B has the record for number of deaths atm, but it was quite fun and wasn't really that much frustrating for me. Peak of frustration for me was at save 13, but that's about it. Didn't found that new mechanic too hard to pull off either, unless its used like in save 3. Most frustrating B side of all was 6th for me though.

Currently completed first 3 C sides, and they were quite easier than I expected (first two rooms of 2-C are a joke), and 3rd screen of 3-C was unexpectedly fun, given it being a timing galore. Really scared about 4-C and further, because 4th chapter is being the point where the game really starts, at any version of levels.

Glad to hear 7B didn't kill your fun! Still the only part of the game for me that I thought kinda sucked.
If you found 1-3C easy you'll be ok with the rest as well. It gets harder from here and is quite a wild ride but you'll be able to do it :)

7C is hell.

I'm on that final stretch of 5-C now and... FFFFFFFFF!!!!!

Matt, what the hell were you ON when you made this?!

I don't doubt that 7-C is probably the only harder part - but I don't even want to imagine what that's like right now. But it's SOOOO PAINFUL!! I've almost got it, still no assist mode; but these two stages (I've cleared 6-C already) *really* tempt me to use assist mode, and I really don't wanna! :(

honestly, 7-C and 8-C took me some time; I died over 450+ times at 8-C and that is my highest death counter in any chapter
brickey.8 Mar 21, 2018 @ 5:23pm
7C took me slightly longer than all the C sides up to that point; 2 hours 19 minutes when the others averaged ~20 minutes. It also took me 3 play sessions to beat the last screen, and I ultimately needed to turn off the sound effects to stop myself from dashing too early at a certain point.

Last room of 8C was extremely intimidating but ultimately not as hard. It was more of a gauntlet of puzzles than a gauntlet of precise moves, so once you got past a part twice you could pass it 90% of the time and focus on the next part.

Personally I feel like the first room of 7C, or something like it, should have been the VERY FIRST thing they gave you when they introduced that mechanic. Why introduce it immediately AFTER the segment where the timing would have been more forgiving? I only completed the other C levels as easily as I did because I skipped ahead to 7C and practiced the dash-walljump for a while.

All in all the C sides were very well designed challenges, as with almost everything in the game.
