Giant Golden Object

Now, I have this game on Switch, but from what I understand the content is the exact same.
on Level 7, in the Hotel segment and near the end, I dashed into a hidden room where there was a big golden... thing. I'm not sure if it was like a coin or a gemstone or what, but I got it and it didn't seem to do anything. This led me to believe I was missing something. Any insight?

Yes. There's a hidden gem in every part of that chapter.

You don't need to get them all on the same run though.

I didn't know that the gems were persistent between runs.

the gems will become useful at marker 28 on the final stretch, look for a gap you can dash through

I never ended up getting this collectible, though I have to admit it would have been the easiest out of all of them. The rest of the ones that aren't hidden on B-Sides are...a little bit ridiculous in their hiding spots. Specifically the ones on chapters one and two.
