The only thing that makes a controller nice is that you would have full 360 degree control over feather movement (introduced in chapter 6) using the analog stick. It can still be played keyboard only, and some speedrunners do use the keyboard exclusively.

How would diagonal dashes be hard on keyboard? If anything, they should be harder on controller.

On keyboard you can do only 45 degrees diagonal jump.

In the standard game, diagonal dashes are only at 45 degree intervals. A Variants mode can enable 360 degree dashing but you have to explicitly set that mode.

Aside from feathers, it comes down to what you are most comfortable with while still being able to perform all of the necessary moves.

The practicality of KB over controller really just depends on which is more comfortable with you. You have more fluidity with the mechanics and movement on controller, but it's mostly dependent on the style you prefer.

i can just say one thing , for the final trick in 8-C i had to switch to gamepad because quickly pressing the right buttons at the end just didnt work with a gamepad fast enough , or i messed the trick up ,with keyboard it worked on the 2nd attempt vs the 10-12 i did with gamepad
