controller vs keyboard
did you guys play it on a controller or keyboard? Is it super hard to play on a keyboard? My controller recently broke and I just got the game so I was wondering if I should try with a keyboard. I usually pay majority of my games using kbm

I have played the entirety on keyboard. I would say, that I had my issues for a bit a year ago when I just bought the game, but I got accostumed to it. Now, after finishing Chapter 9, I think I should consider learning to play piano, because oh boy that was a workout on my fingers.

I played through some levels and I am not really used to of such quick tapping. I mostly play games where there is more stuff to be done with a mouse. I think playing with a controller would be easier
I've use the controller for all of my Celeste gaming. Dashing is a bit of an issue when using the L stick because of how easy it is for it to to register being in one direction instead of the other (looking at you diagonal dash turning out to be downward dash) but otherwise I found it very nice

On keyboard there's 3 fingers for precise directional input (wasd) while on a controller it's just a thumb rolling around. I switched to a cheap mechanical keyboard for precision platformers, and I would never go back to a controller.

I played strictly controller until I reached the feathers...then I promptly switched to keyboard and never looked back. It's just difficult to control Madeline with the slippery feather controls and keyboard is just so much more precise. I rarely go diagonally when I really mean to go up.

I use a controller, but only use the analog sticks for feather segments

a controller is fine, as long as you have a nice crunchy dpad or a well calibrated left joystick. in the very late levels of the game you need to be able to align a downleft or downright diagonal movement position repeatedly, and if you're like me and just use a default 360 pad up to that point, you're going to have a very, very bad time fighting your controller more than the game itself.

thanks. I have decided to go with kb. configured controls to my liking. movement to wasd, jump to space and dash to right mouse

I finished A and B sides multiple times with both controller and kb and either is viable. Keyboard is good, if not better, as it allows for more precise actions, but I am using it along with my contoller, because aftter playing some of chapter 9 on kb, my fingers started to physically hurt. It's a bit easier on my fingers playing with controller, but occasionally I will fail to dash diagonally using stick.

I did quit on 7C because of stick mis-directions, swearing I would not play such precision games but with a keyboard. Now chapter 9 is out... I guess I have to re-train on celeste with the keyboard... from 7c... owww! (my only save file)

All I have to say is the Switch Joycons suck to use. The d-pad is useless and the joystick is terrible at picking up if youre for example dashing up or right/up. It almost seems random what it chooses! Kinda wish I had gotten this on PC instead, but being able to just pick it up and play for 5 min is just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ practical.

Having had experience with a crappy controller (x360; terrible d-pad and analog is imprecise), a good controller, and on keyboard (all A-sides and B-sides beaten on all 3, not including chapter 9), I'd say I prefer controller. A controller with a good d-pad (I use DS4) and analog stick for the golden feathers, however that's just because I prefer it to keyboard. Not to say playing on keyboard is bad at all, it just ain't my cup of tea for this game. So, if you normally play platformers on kb, then you probably want to do the same for this game as there's very little difference between a good controller and keyboard and overall the controls are very basic (only 4 directional keys, and then dash, grab, and jump), besides that it's just learning how to use them all together.

I play with both keyboard or arcade stick. Personally feel both are better then controller. It all comes down to preference in a game that's based on 8 way movement.
