Chapter 9 (Farewell) nerfs being not fun anymore.
Sorry but the title says it all. These changes (in my sight) pretty much killed Farewell knowing how it is meant to be difficult. I can't even look at these changes. If you share the same opinion, I guess continue. Only change that I somewhat liked was the bottom left room in the puzzle section, rest is literally bad in my opinion. With all my dedication to this game, with all what I've been through, I need to say this. Please revert this chapter fully. It's hurting my eyes.

The dev released another patch today regarding level design, which may have reverted yesterday's changes or maybe further altered other levels. I still have no idea what was changed and where, but I'll trust the devs decision.

Only a single room changed, and nothing were reverted from what i know

I welcome any patches that address the frequently bad level design of Chapter 9. The lowest point of the game for me overall.

The only changes I know of across the updates:
  • The first room with the falling spring blocks added an extra block to stop the first tricky spring from falling off the screen, making the timing easier and not requiring fast-falling.
  • The similar room immediately following added a second spring on the block right at the doorbell, again to remove the need for a tricky fast fall. Both of these changes appear to be aimed at smoothing an early outlier spike in the difficulty curve, since they are literally the fifth and sixth rooms in the chapter proper.
  • The beginning of Power Source, where you have an upper and lower route involving jellyfish for the first time, was fiddled with and mostly reverted. The reasoning was that the upper route was intended as a more difficult speedrun option, but the lower route turned out to be faster when performed with ultras and grab-dashes. As of now, the top route was entirely reworked to be faster, focused on the same technique.
  • One of the key rooms was completely reworked to better tutorialize the concept of tossing a jellyfish into a wall and catching it with an upward dash for height. Mechanically it's practically identical to the original intent, but can no longer be done with up-left dashes.
  • The last room before the heart with the jelly and autoscroller was made harder, removing a couple of easy skip options.
  • One room in Reconciliation (the one with three quickly moving electricity "gates") had an extra spring added right before that section, presumably to make landing that dash-grab a little easier. This change seems the least necessary to me, though for sure I remember missing that spring a few times when there was only one.

Honestly, if rebalancing this minor is actually upsetting you such that it ruined the whole level, you are truly someone to be pitied. I can't imagine going through life feeling that angry about trivial things, it sounds exhausting.

These are insignificant changes as well that help address Chapter 9's rough edges; which there are many of due to its over reliance on new gimmicks that aren't always explained well enough through the level design. This is largely only the case early on.

Jellyfish are probably the worst explained mechanic of the game and took me an hour to finally nail the momentum of their lift. It doesn't help that their lift is very dependent on timing and direction, to point that it leads to numerous attempts on otherwise simplistic screens. I can't count how many times I've dashed through a jellyfish only for me to clip through it because my timing was only slightly off.

I mean, by now I think it's pretty clear the dev knows what makes a room challenging or cheap. If he decides to change his mind on a level design due to community feedback, it isn't likely because they merely complained it was too hard.

The more likely scenario is that neither the level design, nor the resulting player experience aligned with his original intention of how he expected it to be played. So he changed it. It's his ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game, I think he's allowed the room to change his mind if he so pleases, lol.

I'm not saying he can't. I'm saying that it's imo a bad move.

That room doesn't require fast falling btw.

yep the chapter was dumbed down... I hope they make a beta branch for the original Chapter 9 before it was made worse by community feedback.

Are you seriously complaining that 5 of the 100+ rooms were barely changed?

Well it's kinda true, it's too much for me too, they change the designs once, making the rooms ultra easy, and they change again by making an other room even more easier, without saying that they said they reverted some room, even though they didn't reverted anything.
