How do I access sandbox mode?
I looked in all the obvious places in-game and couldn't find it. Do I have to complete a certain number of story missions? Or is there something I'm missing?

its called prototyping new designs.

Yeah, after you get through the first couple projects, your boss comes to you with the 'prototyping new designs' thing, and that's the sandbox. It's a pretty cool sandbox, especially the custom LCDs... (God, I wish it were really as easy to have custom LCDs made as it is PCBs... I'd totally make a retro-style handheld game just for fun.)
