Not exactly.

It's from the same developer and the coding aspect is also based on assembly language, however the main focus of the game is more around circuit board design where TIS-100 was focused around the programming language exclusively.

I consider Shenzhen a middle ground between the design logic aspect of something like Spacechem, and the programming principles (and constraints) of TIS-100.

And unlike those other two games, even if you're not exactly great at one aspect or the other you should still be able to come up with solutions.... they just might not be the most efficient.

Shenzhen I/O is completely unrelated to TIS-100 story-wise. Gameplay-wise, it's pretty closely related; the assembly languages are quite similar, but differ in some important details, and there are a lot more components to play around with.

I'd say it's somewhat like a TIS-100 version 2.0. Like the others say, the core gameplay, making tiny assembly language programs and hooking them together, is about the same. The main difference is that instead of all the "parts" being the same (the nodes in TIS-100 are all the same), there are a dozen or two different part in SHENZHEN, a few programmable. I'd guess if you like TIS-100, you might love SHENZHEN. Oh, another difference: many of the TIS-100 puzzles are very mathy, or classic algorithm-like, like one where I make a linked list. The puzzles in SHENZHEN aren't really like that, they're more "real world" practical app. Very silly practical apps to be sure. But there's nothing like a puzzle to multiply numbers, or generate a list of the prime numbers, etc.
