They don't directly attack it, but they can damage (and eventually destroy it) if it just happens to be in the path of them attempting to kill you.
Ok thanks. I am looking for something more along the lines of a base defense game, but with AI that attack, not so much pvp, though I am not against it. Doesnt seem to be many decent games that offer base defense as well. I may pick this up at another time.
Check out Osiris, Empyrion, Space Engineers, Eden Star if you are wanting a game that does base defence.
Personally I am glad Planet Nomads does not do that, and hope it never will.
space engineers lag even on a good pc. I have Empyrion and while I like it, still early access and largely broken in certain areas.
Ill look at the other 2 games. Appeciate the name suggestions. I will add this game to my watch list in case i ever need something peaceful to do
This is more survival/explore with a laid back attitude, good fun when your fed up of all the other survival type games, plus this is still very early in development and has a lot still to come. Hope that helps you out a little, hermit out.
I had played Planet Explorers from early on to release (not through steam in case your wondering why its not on my list) and i can say the building and the crafting on that game are great, you can build a base anywhere and make it however you want. Heck i even built a small coastal city with docks and even a sub pen for my subs (yes you can build those too). The creator that allows you to build you OWN style of vehicles is by far the best part of the game, i love making some rediculous vehicles. Other than that the story is unfortunately meh, but you could easily play over a hundred hours just playing around with the crafting and building, Its not the greatest game and is kinda buggy at times (SAVE often while doing missions as some missions can bug out thereby not letting you progress) but you will definitely get your moneys worth.
Check out 7 Days to Die. Every 7 days, hordes of Zeds will attack your base. Well playable in Single Player. Also check out Fortress Craft, which has a constant attack on your base and is actually more of a 3rd person tower defense game, while trying to build a base.
I own 7 days to die.
I enjoy it, over 2k hours. I am looking for something just like 7 days to die, but in a space format.
I essentially want to recreate the scene from aliens 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQDy-5IQvuU
I also have They are Billions, Empyreon Galatic Survival, Space Eng, and Avorion.
What I really want, is a game that has the free build like this one, mixed with the base defense of 7 days to die, but in a scifi setting, space alien worlds, but with AI. PVP is all fun, but sometimes I wanna just build something amazing, then watch it fall to the AI.
I still may get this game anyway, as I do love a good building sim.
Eden Star (the original version) sudo-satisfied my building and defending desires, but was no where as intricate (physics building) as PN. ES was also a short play and I really had to work to milk 150hrs from it. But...they are close to releasing the big update to that game which should have a lot more to do. I play many of the games in this genre and float between them as they make design advancements.
If you looking for an Aliens 2 type thing then Osiris New Dawn may well be the closest thing. In that game you can set the level of alien incursions to a pretty insane level: they will relentlessly attack you and your base (particularly at night) and when you are out gathering rescources etc. One of the alien types even looks a bit like an HR Geiger type creature.
PN has always had a more thoughtful Interstellar/The Martian type vibe (which is why many of us like it).
Survival/explore...well, not very much to explore and survival is light and very easy.
I will say this is more building vehicles than anything, the rest is very shallow and need work and changes (to travelling, to monuments, to wrecks, to terrain generation, to terraforming, to resource distribution, to research/unlock new block and machines, to exploration...) IMO, some things that were added but never reviewed have still design problems or functional problems.
There's no need to explore anything and you can unlock all and have all resources very quickly. In just 10 minutes you can unlock almost all machines and blocks, and you can have the top tier equipment in about 2 hours or so, maybe quickly (you will spend more time travelling to get the farest resources than anything, but you will return with enough to do it all after a single trip with a vehicle that you will be able to build in the first 20 minutes of play)
Having insane amounts of water and a lot of food is very simply, also, so survival is too easy.
It's almost like a creative mode even on survival mode. Building vehicles is great, bases not too much, the rest...well, still not very fun, imo. And unlocking 95% of blocks and machines in about 10 minutes (even less, to be honest) is not fun, also.
Oh, and wildlife does not count very much. You can ignore them as they tend to ignore you (no matter if you choose agressive or passive in options, and the most agressive animals will always act like agressive even on passive). It's also possible that you will see no wildlife until you start to travel and already have a complete base and a vehicle, because the random generator and how the nests of animals work.
So, in my opinion, this is more or less like getting Space Engineers, because that's what it does better. For any of the other features, Empyrion is probably what is close to a 7 days to die feeling, imo. It has its own problems, of course, but Osiris or Eden Star are not the same, again in my opinion, and have less content than Empyrion. Planet Explorers is beautiful and has good intentions, but it was released half-baked, sadly, combat is weird and frustrating (specially ranged combat), and building was better during EA than at the end (but it still interesting and you can build some crazy machines like in Planet Nomads) Also, it's still very bugged and you can be frustrated trying to do the story mode.
tl;dr: no base defense here, just good building vehicles.
