How to get a better 3D printer (better than compact)?

Yo,

so back in early access times you got the medium 3D printer and you were golden. Now I have that "advanced ALM" mission with 3 steps and am stuck with the compact 3D printer that can only print low tech stuff. All the blocks I have on my list but not unlocked yet need medium/high tech parts so I can't build them.

Am I doing something wrong or is that part of the final release just buggy? *scratches head*

You are on a good path, if you already search for aluminium. Somewhere you have to find a printer and scan it.
The scanning problem I encountered that bug during testing.
Try saving and loading the game. Developers said they built a workaround to that problem.

My advice is to save often the game and as soon as you notice the bug, go back to a previous good save.

I don't think that's true. I can't remember ever scanning a printer.

The ALM is built using the armoury. You will need some advanced material. Can't remember which.

If you do all your objectives, you should automatically get one for the small armoury and then one for the medium 3D printer (Printer 2.0, IIRC).

I think I'm heading the right way now. Please note that the objective is called advanced ALM, I'm not aiming to actually make advanced ALM yet. What I was referring to was making a better 3D printer than the compact one... one that can print higher-tier components

Actually, no, I give up.

Have scanned and explored my way through half the planet now, have completed all the objectives I can with the resources I can collect or build, all left to do is build stuff that I can't build. Because I can't build the needed components. Because I don't have a better 3D printer. Because I can't find any.

If that's intentional then someone has vastly overdone the difficulty setting. Note that I set all to easy just to soak in the mood and see what's been built in for the final, and still no luck.

If you do not have that quest then is a bug.
Better to report it from the game menu.

I have that quest but that's it. What am I supposed to do there, craft an advanced ALM? Did that, no quest progress.
Correction, had gathered an advanced ALM somewhere already and checking my inventory thought I'd crafted it sometime earlier. Doesn't help me though. Objective has now proceeded to 1/3, no idea what I have to do now that I've not done before. Still stuck.

If you crafted 3 pieces of the Advanced ALM Then is a bug and nothing happened, report it from the game menu. That will send the log files and the save and a screenshot to developers and they can check what happened and possibly fix your save either manually or with a patch tomorrow.

1/3 means you crafted one piece out of the 3 needed. So you advanced a bit. Is not stuck but you have to craft 2 more.

It's not you. The developers could create better user interface. I do not say it is the worst but I would make it differently. This particular step is very vague. The title, the ALM and the text below...
"Craft the best printer you can have" was for me confusing. As I always crafted the best I can have at that moment.

yes you need the Compact Armory and some Titanium,carbon an silicon to unlock the Medium 3D printer by making 3 advanced ALM's. Some of the tech tree items have to be found and scanned on the planet using the scanner tool. Hope this helps others out and i agree it was a bit vague! But enjoying the new game none the less thanks developers;)
